Tiago Splitter Poll!

You've had a little while to think about it, and have probably read many threads, scouting reports, and other articles about him..so. How do you feel? I for one feel that this is a great pick, and will pay off in the future.

I'll take something in between. I don't think he's great. I think he'll come over. I don't think he's bad. And I don't necessarily think he'll always come off the bench.

So I'll say - he'll eventually be a 9 and 7 player who starts sometimes.

I figured there's a diffence between a great player and a great pick. I think it's a great pick, and he'll be a good player with a long career.

Splitters been playing against tougher competition than Greg Oden since he was 16.

I tend to agree with Kori. You should wedge in "be a solid contributor" as the 2nd choice in the poll.

I wasn't crazy about Splitter but he's sort of a wild card. I say he will come over next summer, train early, (not sure about summer league)...then start out slowly, figure things out and play in the top 9 in floor time his first season. He's not setting the woods on fire in Spain so I doubt he would do so in Texas. He has the potential to fit in nicely with the Spurs' system.

By the way, I liked McRoberts and Fazekas better than Splitter...but you never know...I hope Tiago ends up thriving with the Spurs.

Jackie Butler looked good last year in the few games that he got extended time against quality players (I'm remembering him going up against Pau Gasol). But so far most of Butler's basketball experience has consisted of high school, CBA and Isiah Thomas' garbage time in NY. Splitter, on the other hand, has been playing quite well for 5 years as a starter on one of the best teams in Europe. So for the moment I'd say that Butler has a much higher liklihood of being a bust since he hasn't proven much yet.

Frankly though, I think both of them have a good chance of being decent players.

Great pick in the sense that he's virtually guaranteed to be a player that sees floor itme as a big whether starting or off the bench. Not many 28 pick that you get that are a virtual lock to do that. Only downside is his offensive game development seems to have stalled out.

It was a boring pick but it'll turn out to be a good pick. Splitter isn't going to be an All-Star but he is going to do the dirty work. He knows how to play and he knows how to fit a role. He's like a 22-year-old version of Oberto in that sense.

He might be the safest 28th draft pick in NBA history. The chances of Splitter being an NBA bust are extremely low. Barring injury, at worst Splitter can be an Elson type for eight to ten years in the league.

From what I have read, his offensive numbers stalled with Tau because he was playing the role that Tau asked him to do...he plays much more of an offensive role on the Brazilian national squad.

I'm with you. I think he'll be a good, if not great, center who'll probably work into a starting role unless we get another lottery miracle and come up with a superstar lottery pick a la Duncan and Robinson.

But when you think about it, how many superstar centers are in the league in any one year? Damn few.

Yup......He has had a huge buyout like Scola...now that he is on the last year of his contract his buyout is manageable.

I think he'll be a solid 12 pts 7.5 reb/gm type player in the long run. I think he could make the All-rookie team.

In time, despite been carrying the torch, he wont play the PanAm Games.

He´ll only play the pre-olympic in Las Vegas. A good opportunity to you watch him.

I don't think the kid will ever be great or an all-star, but this Spurs team is about finding the right role players for now. While I don't think he'll be "great", I do think he has the right complimentary game to be the Spurs' starting Center for a long time.

Duncan/Splitter for 08-09 until Duncan hangs them up is great with me...

I was shocked when I heard Splitter was the pick. I think we should certainly bring him on over straight away if possible.
