View Full Version : SCARY Trailer Before Transformers

The Red Hood
07-01-2007, 04:28 PM
Word out in the street is that J.J. Abrams (Lost) is producing not directing a new unnamed disaster monster movie set in New York the trailer will be before "Transformers" and I hear it is pretty damn "scary" because the entire trailer was filmed with a home video camera, which made it look all the more authentic and scary (The Blair Witch Project) I have a description of the trailer if you want to be spoiled read the description if not then just see it if and when you watch the movie the trailer goes under the codename: 'Cloverfield' and will be released 1-18-08

It is from the perspective of people's camera in NYC. A huge earthquake breaks up a going away party. The people at the party go to the roof top just in time to catch lower Manhattan erupt into a ball of fire! They make their way to the street to witness the head of the statue of liberty fly down the street, and there is a monster roar or scream if you will, end clip with screaming!

Now I am not saying to go see 'Transformers' because of this I know I am not too enthused to see 'Transformers' because I can't stand Shia Labeouf or his damn annoying teen girl fans I am sure once the movie comes out the trailer will make its way to the Internet

this is all i could find:

imdb page (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1060277/)

quote from wiki:

"Recently, it has come to light that JJ Abrams will be producing a film project currently know as "Cloverfield." The first official teaser trailer has been attached to prints of "Transformers" without a title."

quote from aicn:

So what is CLOVERFIELD? Well, word from inside the company is that CLOVERFIELD is a giant monster movie, featuring something that's being referred to internally as "The Parasite," and we’re going to see a trailer for it very soon that’s been designed and shot even as we speak. I’m not sure if it’s going to be attached to TRANSFORMERS or if we’ll see it later in the summer, but it’s definitely coming soon. And the end of it should feature one of those iconic images that makes people talk about a trailer for months.

And what makes this different than any other giant monster movie? Well, as I understand it, most of the film is going to be shot using home video cameras, as if from the point of view of real people who are experiencing an attack on New York. It’s designed as a fairly small picture, all things considered, and right now, they’re working to make sure the script is going to deliver some wild thrills (like an earthquake that levels Manhattan or an oil tanker flipping over by the Statue of Liberty), but that it’s not suddenly going to turn into a giant $150 million movie. It’s a tricky balance, and if they pull off everything they’re trying to do, CLOVERFIELD could be something really groovy. Not a man in suit in sight.

One rumor I heard is that it could be a remake of "The Host (Gwoemul)"

youtube trailer (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WW9M__BfVuU)

jman3000
07-01-2007, 10:16 PM
the host wasnt really a disaster movie though... maybe if you count the river being contaminated... but it certaintly wasnt on a massive scale. it was more of a monster movie with a bunch of emphasis on the characters.

The Red Hood

They better not be remaking The Host, that movie was absolutely brilliant.

Read somewhere it's something about giant monsters attacking New York or possibly alien invasion. But they wanted to do it more "Blair Witch" style, and with a smaller budget.

2.) Sonic blast
3.) from JAPAN!!!!

I'm trying not to seek out too many rumors right now, especially after I saw the release date. Seems like the kind of movie you don't want to know much about. The teaser is pretty cool, seen it a few times on the big screen. It's definitely provocative. It's funny, a bunch of people thought it was the beginning of Transformers when I saw it. I wonder if they (Paramount) were explicitly going for that.

I have a good hunch it might be godzilla too. If you remember the last Godzilla, there was one egg that was left, and right when the movie ended, it cracked open (the egg was underground too). so it seems plausable. And it would be sweet!!! Agree/disagree?

Yeah he has that real shrieking roar if anything it sounds more like Rodan but it will probably be just a big fat slimy worm since their saying it might be called (The) Parasite although I do find it unusual that the movie comes out when or around the same time that the next season of 'Lost' starts

Would be pretty cool if they added a suspenseful/horror theme onto a godzilla movie, but good gods of vallhalla they totally botched up Godzilla in that last one, I almost had to tell Circus Charlie IV to hold my pop corn while I ran to the bathroom and threw up everything I had eaten for the last twelve days.

I am a godzilla fan, hardcore, and that movie disgusted me.

On another point, check out this youtube video, didn't want to start a seperate transformers thread so ya'll might enjoy this. It's Soundwave gearing up for the release of the new Transformers movie. Pretty funny, thought the voice needs a little more low-mid end. For such a low budget, I was impressed by Soundwave/Starscreams voice.

JJ Abrams had nothing to do with X3. Your thinking of Brett Ratner who was the director. The movie is produced by Lauren Shuler Donner, Ralph Winter, andAvi Arad.

Cloverfield is directed by Matt Reeves, and produced by Abrams and Bryan Burk

The HD trailer here http://www.apple.com/trailers/paramount/11808/hd/

It looks like the movie MIGHT be called 1.18.08 but nothing is confirmed yet and this is looking to become just like the Blair Witch in terms of marketing if you click here at imdb.com (http://imdb.com/title/tt1060277/board/threads/) their are actually people that claim that this monster attack has or will happen in New York, look for a guy with the imdb name MY NAME IS VAN he seems to be the most convincable in terms of him staying in character check out what he put here (http://imdb.com/title/tt1060277/board/flat/79048874?p=1)
and of course there are the Ethan Haas puzzles http://www.comingsoon.net/films.php?id=21621 another rumor is that the movie might be about the end of the Mayan calender on December 2012
definitely look out for something on August 1 which is what the EH puzzles reveal

"Cloverfield/01-18-08" might be about:

Godzilla - I don't think it's this monster b/c the roar doesn't sound like him. Just rent one of Godzilla's movies and compare roars.

Rodan - Again Rodan's roar doesn't sound like the one in the trailer. Doesn't he fly? What's he doing coming from the ground?

Transformers 2 - I heard rumors that the Dinobots might be in the sequel. Are they bad guys? I don't remember! That might explain the roar, and being able to toss the head of The Statue of Liberty.

The Parasite - Rumors have it being named this title. I think it's going to end being a "new monster movie" and not any of the above.

According to an internet source where I always get my inside movie info (very reliable source), the movie is going to be about the Ancient Gods waking up to seek revenge for what humanity has done to Earth.

That is kind of what I was hearing as well also from a very reliable source the whole end of the Mayan calender in December 2012 may tie in with ancient gods though it will probably just be about a giant fat alien worm

JJ Abrams at Comic-Con:

“I want a monster movie, I've wanted one for so long. I was in Japan with my son and all he wanted to do is go to toy stores. And we saw all these Godzilla toys, and I thought, we need our own monster, and not King Kong, King Kong's adorable. I wanted something that was just insane and intense. It's almost done shooting and I watch dailies and I'm more excited for them than the trailer, which has had an overwhelming response. We have 6 months before this comes out. We're going to have a whole bunch of things, a whole bunch more." He said a full trailer, more clips, full posters, and much more will be coming out over the next 6 monts, including the name, which he will NOT reveal today.

It looks like the movie might be called Overnight according to Rotten tomatoes and Slashfilm

J.J. Abrams Project Title Mystery Solved?
Untitled J.J. Abrams Project gets closer to "titled" status. Maybe.
by Jeff Giles | August 03, 2007

Say what you will about his followthrough, but J.J. Abrams knows how to set up a project. He's established himself as something of a trailblazer for viral ads, littering the Web with various Lost-related content, and he's using the same tactics to create buzz for his next film production -- so much buzz, in fact, that the thing doesn't even have an official title yet, and that's news, as Slashfilm's Peter Sciretta recently learned firsthand.

How intense is the speculation surrounding the film (referred to, up 'til now, as 1-18-08 or Cloverfield)? As Sciretta posted at Slashfilm on Tuesday, enterprising fans have been poring over copyright registration paperwork. (We can just hear our mothers now: "If you only gave that kind of effort to your homework...") Anyway, an attorney named Lori N. Boatright has registered a trademark for the title Overnight, and this just happens to be the same Lori Boatright who did the same for the trademarks protecting Abrams' Bad Robot production company, as well as a pair of slogans thought to be connected with the upcoming movie.

Translation? It seems like a pretty safe bet that 1-18-08/Cloverfield is actually going to be called Overnight -- or that someone wants to make a bunch of hyper-caffeinated movie afficionados think that's what it'll be called, which would be sort of a mean trick, but also very funny.

How big is the story? Big enough to land Sciretta on a segment of CNBC's On the Money. Whether this movie is any good obviously remains to be seen, but even if it turns out to be the worst release of 2008, it'll be valuable as an example of exactly how to market a film.

It's funny because each person you hear talk about this movie makes your brain decrease the likelihood that you'll see it.

Luckily it's not based on a book, or has hobbits in it.
At least.....as far as we know it doesn't.......

Well I guess were all pretty pumped up about this new movie. But the questions still remain? What is it called and what is the monster, and what’s with the pics on the main page? I’ve been reading this forum about 01-18-08, and these guys think it’s tied into myspace and other pages, read post 484. it seems to make sense but thought you guys should give it a look. There is a lot to read but I recommend you get a much as possible.

I am willing to bet that the movie will be called 'Overnight' but wouldn't it be fucking insane if it was rated R just for the shear intensity of it that alone would make this be the best big monster movie

that would be sweet but there's no way they let it get rated R, with all the anticipation they gotta maximize the $ and get it to PG-13.

slusho.org seems to think it is a remake of The Beast. Also, anti-christ.com

"Romans 1:18 - For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all."

So you could use that as a thought to with it being released on 1-18.

This just goes to show that human nature is to try to dig in to find out everything about anything that seems to be a mystery. Other than the urge to sleep, eat, drink, or have sex, this may be the strongest common human urge that rattles around in our brains. If you want to get someone's attention... give them a glimpse of something that piques their interest and then don't tell them the whole story. Make them guess and rack their brains, and they'll never leave you alone about it. This is the entire reason the Blair Witch shit movie made millions upon millions of dollars. This is also a really good way for a female to keep a male interested... and vice versa

Apparently we will see a glimpse of the "creature." I'm still holding out hope for a better title even the guy from CHUD said it could possibly be "Cloverfield" just for the test audiences to conceal the true name of the film. We'll see... :nerd

i actually think the "keep 'em waiting on the title" strategy has backfired big time. At this point, it doesn't matter what the title of the movie is, people are going to say "omfg we waited this long and THAT is what the fuckin movie is called??!?!?!"

i say they should just stick with Cloverfield since that's what everybody already knows it as. Even if it makes no sense to the movie.

I just hope that there is not a "hero" who discovers how to defeat the monster. That's always the case in monster movies. Another thing I want to see is total distruction by the monster. In other words there is only one thing in the monsters mind and that's to destroy everything and everyone!! I don't want it to be a Godzilla or King Kong type movie where people feel sorry for the thing after awhile.

Found this on IMDB....

Although director Matt Reeves and producer J.J. Abrams have not specified and declared what the monster will be, Abrams stated that he created a new monster after him and his son visited a toy store in Japan. "We saw all these Godzilla toys, and I thought, we need our own monster, and not King Kong, King Kong's adorable. I wanted something that was just insane and intense."

A list of what the monster will not be has also been confirmed. The monster is not: Godzilla, King Kong, a giant Crab, a Lion, a live action version of Voltron, or an alien known as the Parasite.
