I have seen " Evan Almighty" which I loved. It was hilarious and was surprisingly touching.
It is a great film to go see after a hard day.
Same is true of " Lisence to Wed", although if you can only make it to one, go see "Evan Almighty".

Then today I saw " The Evening" which was a very good yet very strange film.

I thought the acting was excellent and I was intrigued by the characters. The story line was interesting but I was never quite sure what the point of the movie was meant to be.
But then again, the film was a character study so I guess viewers are meant to take what they take from it.
I need to go see it again, I think.

Anyone seen any of the above yet?

What about "Evan Almighty" offended her, do you know?

Personally, the film reinforced my faith in God- contained good messages about having faith, loving and supporting your family, and doing what God tells you to do.
I liked "Bruce Almighty" but of the two films, "Bruce" was the one with the heresy.

Most recent ones I have seen are 1408 and Knocked Up.

1408 is a good movie that is based on a Stephen King short story.

Knocked Up is pretty vulgar but it was pretty funny.

Eagle versus Shark and License to Wed.

Eagle versus Shark is kinda of like a mix between Little Miss Sunshine and Napoleon Dynamite. It's one of those you would see at the Bigou or whatever it's called at Crossroad's that sells the alcohol/whatnot. It was amazing.

License to Wed was funny, kind of predictable, but good. The boy in it, whatshisname, is a hottie.

Have my tickets for Harry Potter tomorrow- IMAX 3 D.

I have really liked every movie I have seen this summer, but I do not go for the big blockbusters. I really liked the Waitress and was pleasantly surprised at Surf's Up!

Shooter. Good movie, and that Kentucky chick is very hot. Especially with her accent.

I just saw that Kim Kardashian movie. It sucked ass, didn't even raise anything. It was as if a 3rd grader got a hold of a camcorder and started filming, it was that bad and there is no excuse, this girl was hot enough to put some more time and effort into making a good movie about her and her body. Just suddenly orders are released and someone was like: Quick make a low budget porno, but put a famous name onto the cover. I mean if I just shat in a bag and wrote Kim Kardashian Super Star on it, it would be the equivalent.

Transformers
Live Free or Die Hard
1408
Pan's Labryinth (DVD)
Evan Almighty

Of the theater features - Evan Almighty was horrible - not even the great Morgan Freeman could do anything with it, Transformers was entertaining with great visual effects, 1408 was interesting and had some good hallucination scenes that were visually appealing, and Live Free or Die Hard was by far the best movie I've seen at a theater this year. Big fan of the series and this one was just as good.

OTOH - Pan's Labryinth was the best movie I've seen in a while. Excellent storyline, excellent acting, excellent cinematography. It really brings you into it's world and it was one of the few movies I've seen where I didn't check my watch once to see the time. The movie was so interesting that I lost track of time.

Ratatouille was great.

Just saw Ocean's 13, and it was, as the first two, fantastic.

Don't know what to see next. Might stay up late and catch the Harry Potter.

Of course up the road at the mall, they have a showing here in Newport Beach at 3 am...

Just rented Shooter. Bad ass flick. I'm gonna add that one to the DVD library! Something seemed familiar about the story...I think I read the book it was based on once, but they updated the plot.

Also rented something called "The Last Mimsy" or something like that for Little ASF. It wasn't a great film, but it wasn't as bad as I thought it was gonna be. Timothy Hutton sure looks old these days! I'd recommend it for kids in the 8 to 12 range.

I liked the part when it was said, "I've been married to Harris for 40 years- we just never lived together" ( He was an old boyfriend the speaker never fell out of love with. )

" Harris was just a boy dear. A very good looking one, but still just a boy."

I have known both those feelings about the same guy- mid crush for the first quote. post same crush for the second. :lol

I saw Harry Potter today... I have to say I'm thoroughly disappointed. In fact it SUCKED! A couple of points:

1) This movie has some fucked up scenes. I'd be surprised if some kids don't come out having nightmares from watching it.

2) The Watson chick can't act to save her life, its always the same exagerated faces and heavy breathing (Same goes for Radcliffe on a few of the scences) She used to be cute, which would offset how bad she really is, but now, its worn off, and its plain to see.

3) Not nearly as many cool special effects scenes as there was on the previous ones.

4) Couldn't they have picked a prettier girl to play Cho?? She's fugly! I haven't read the books, but I've been told that she's supposed to be drop dead gorgeous. If this is true, somebody fucked up the casting.

5) The whole ending was rushed, and unsatisfying and I don't just mean because its left open, which everybody expected.

On the other hand there are some good things about the movie:

1) The acting (outside of the three main kids) is superb as always.

2) They couldn't have picked a better, more annoying villain than Imelda Staunton. By the end of the movie you just want her strangled :lol

^^Listening to KERA radio review, they said its very obviously not a kids movie like the first two were, or even a suspense thriller like 3, but intentionaly goes for this darker more sinister style of harry potter movie. I've been told the books do this as well. Kinda like they are written while keeping in mind the people who were young when the first book was written, and how old they are now.
That watson chick would be the only reason I see this movie, which will be never.

Pan's Labryinth was very good! Rented it a couple of weeks ago.

If you haven't seen Pan's Labryinth but plan to, do not read.

Pan's Labryinth is incredible, but I had a problem with two details in the movie.

First, why do the rebels use the key to unlock the storage building to steal the supplies? Why don't they just break the lock? If they break the lock and steal the supplies, the sadistic colonel wouldn't suspect his housekeeper of stealing the keys.

Second, who drew those images on the walls of the children being eaten by the blind monster?

Pan's Labryinth is a great, great movie.
It's really good but maybe a tad overrated.

Knocked Up is really funny (seriously, who posts at ST and has a problem with the vulgarity of this movie?)

Transformers - greatest SFX ever, worst movie ever. it's seriously the stupidest movie ever made, but dammit those robots look cool.

Black Snake Moan - the director of this movie has a hard-on for pairing quirky characters and interesting situations with the most obvious and horrible cliches (see Hustle & Flow). And someone please tell Justin Timberlake that he's not an actor.

Letters From Iwo Jima - incredible movie. about 100000000x better than Flags of our Fathers.

Didn't the girl steal something from the monster? I think that is why she had to go into that portal.

I was referring to the drawings. If the children were being devoured, who drew those images on the walls? The only thing I could think of is that there were multiple children. And as one child was being eaten, the other children were drawing the warnings on the walls. But how did they have time to draw?

I might have to watch it again. Maybe I missed something.

Saw the beginning of 'Thank You For Smoking' would have saw the whole thing but it started at 4 in the morning and I have to work from what I saw it was a pretty good little movie and Aaron Eckhart is as charming as ever it is no wonder why they picked him to play Harvey Dent/Two Face in TDK the part calls for someone like able and charming and eckhart possesses those qualities from what I hear about the Oceans movies George Clooney is almost as cool as Sinatra planning on seeing 'Oceans 11' on TNT this weekend Evan Almighty is getting huge support from the catholic church I would not mind seeing it, Steve Carell is one of my favs and Get Smart looks GREAT
Thank You For Smoking is kick ass, Robe Lowe's character is awesome

good for you. i didn't even dispute that.

Sorry ... I was referring more to the other thread where everyone was dissecting the shit out of Transformers like it was going to be up for some Academy Award or something. It was ridiculous, IMO.

We really liked it.

In the theater, I recently saw 1408, and just about sh*t my pants! I loved it! I can't wait to go see it again.

I've also been going to HBO OnDemand and catching movies that I never saw.

In Her Shoes... was....meh

The Family Stone...was very funny, yet heart-wretching at the same time.

Friday Night Lights (DVD)...too close to home for me. I used to live out in West Texas when Permian was dominating everyone. The hard-core love for high school football portrayed in the movie just brought back many bad memories.

50 First Dates (DVD)...OMFG I love this movie so much that I've only seen it about 1,000,000 times! I love Adam Sandler and Drew Berrymore together in movies. I think they are the new Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan.

is it still considered film criticism if you just say you like everything?
this man distributes stars liberally

Only when the movie deserves them

As I said a few weeks ago, I walked out of Pirates, because it was one of the worst movies ever. I give it 1/4 * tops. After thefirst one, it just got worse and worse.....shamefully.

I had a lull of a weekend so spent more time than usual digging through HBO and Starz On Demand as well as other On Demand stuff:

Finally saw The 9th Gate after about 7 years and it was... different. Some parts I liked, some I didn't - but it definitely had Polanski written all over it.

Finally saw The Island, and I enjoyed it as a Michael Bay film can be enjoyed. The story was pretty good and the cast pretty good as well. Not bad.

Next was Unleashed - it was actually better than I thought going in. I was expecting the typical Jet Li fistfest and was surprised by a lot of drama aspects and pretty good acting by Li, Hoskins, and Freeman. Decent drama combined with good fights scenes = much better than expected.

Next two up sometime this week - Thank You for Smoking and Black Christmas

The best movie I have seen lately was The Fountain, and that was on DVD. I recommend it to everyone; warning though its pretty sad.

The Fountain was a very good movie - exactly what I was expecting from Aronofsky. It was confusing as hell at first but tied together well. Amazing how long it took to get that movie filmed, including the first company completely scrapping it during production.
