why not cung le vs joe riggs

Joe Riggs would tear him to pieces.

Cung Le has an awesome stand up but Joe can take a beating and once he closed the distance and got Cung Le in any sort of clinch, game over.

At least from what we know of Le's game so far.

And I love Cung Le but there is so much more I need to see from him.

One more thing, Joe seems to have many issue she needs to work on. IMO his best bet is to sit out a year.

The Carioca Gabriel “Napao”Gonzaga (8-2-0) finally shall have a chance to avenge his knockout loss to Fabricio Werdum (9-3-1) in Jungle Fight 1, in September, 2003. Marco Alvan, leader of Team Link confirmed today exclusively to Graciemag.com that the battle between the black belts will take place in January, at UFC 80, in Newcastle, England.

Shaky.

People were bitching about Monson fighting Sylvia and how he shouldn't even be in the ring with Sylvia. Of course, they wanted Monson to win, but that's the nature of Sylvia's fan afair. It's going to be worse with him fighting Fedor. Interesting fight to anybody? Fedor was taken down quite frequently by Arona in their RINGS fight, so I believe that Jeff can get him to the ground. Can he do anything with it though? He couldn't submit Sylvia.

Evan
11-08-2007, 01:52 PM
Just to clarify, what I mean by shaky is shaky as in its going to happen. Its seems every time a non UFC organization needs a "Big Name" to fight at HW in the main event, its him as a possibility. I can't even keep track of how many times I have seen his name on a card and the fight happens and he is nowhere to be found.

But, I find this somewhat of an interesting match up and likely he will face Fedor, next Rizzo if they can't get Jeff. It still won't get many people to buy the PPV if they can't do better than that. Even Josh Barnett won't help much. They need a solid top to bottom card. MMA PPV's are about the entire card and the main event as gravy. Fedor means ZERO to the vast majority of MMA fans, who are only UFC fans.

M-1 will fail and it will fail badly. I wish Fedor had gone to EliteXC if not the UFC.

You get this from MMAweekly?

Normally their rumors are spot on...wonder who they heard this from.

So does he have a new contract.......

If he doesn't the UFC is going to have him smashed before he leaves.

Who do you think might be matched up with Shogun?

Who knows...its so far out. My best match-up would be Vera since I just don't see him at HW for too much longer but thats another long break between fights and he needs to stay busy right now.

Maybe the winner of Chuck Vs Wanderlei.

But maybe even Houston Alexander or have Sobral back by then but I don't think he will be back until 09. I know Sobral has two contracts right now but both are breakable by him after one fight from what I understand.

Possibly Sokoudjou....

Something else to consider would be Rampage but I really think he will be a TUF coach so that wipes that out.

But the one that makes the most sense to me would be Wanderlei since they have both stated they would fight.

It’s not that I find it hard to believe that he’d fight Rizzo. I just find it odd that Meltzer’s rumor ties it to Art of War, which is toast at this point. Makes no sense. Meltzer is good, but I just question that aspect of the rumor…

And as far as Fedor vs Rizzo goes, it’s not the greatest but it’s not the worst. People don’t seem to have much of a problem if he were to fight Monson, and Monson just got beat handily by Rizzo. Rizzo is also the “champ” of another org, although AoW is all but dead at this point…

I think it's because of Monson's game, versus Rizzo's. Fedor is susceptible to takedowns. Watch the Arona fight to see what I mean. I'm not sure Monson could do anything with that take down though.

Either way, Fedor should just retire and leave his legacy in tact. I don't see him fighting Tim or Randy. Other than that, I really can't think of any other fights I'd like to see him in.

Cuban better not throw him some pud so after he wins 2 or 3 in a row and retires, the boxing fans will have their satisfaction of "boxing beats MMA" and that crap. Lets see MWJ fight Yves Edwards and see what happens. But honestly, I dont see this happening. And if it does...its just further proof MMA is taking over boxing.

I would love to see a Mayweather well trained in BJJ and other angles of striking fight top level, but I dont think Floyd will train that long and has that motivation.

I think in the case of Mayweather, he's a huge draw. He would draw MMA and boxing fans for at least one fight. Now, it's not going to draw all boxing fans, but plenty would watch. It would draw almost all MMA fans, depending on who he fought.

BUT, this WILL NOT happen. It's a PR stunt by Cuban.

It says April 19th and although it doesn't state 83, it's pretty logical to assume that they aren't going to have a card 7 days later with the headline of McCarthy vs Bisping.

Anyway, that is going to be a stacked card if all the rumors are true. I don't believe they are.

I saw Dana still talking about the London event, maybe it is true. The event better be free, if it's on the 8th of the March. There is no way I am paying for an event headlined by Bisping vs McCarthy. Even if it were a bigger headline, I'm not paying for two events in a month.

Just got this from a reliable source:

* UFC 83 is slated for March 8 in London, England
* UFC Fight Night is slated for April 2 in Denver, Colorado
* UFC 84 is slated for April 19 in Montreal, Canada

It’s a bit odd to have two major events scheduled for back-to-back weekends (UFC 82 and UFC 83). We’ll have to wait and see if UFC 83 is free on SpikeTV (like UFC 75) or is a pay-per-view (PPV) event.

Yeah, I just saw the same thing. I just thought it was an error when I first read it. Dana hasn't completely confirmed the 83 event though and said "We're still trying to make it happen" or something to that effect. As I said, it'd better be free.

Tap the breaks

******************************************

Fledgling Japanese mixed martial arts promotion World Victory Road on Friday announced that Phil Baroni would face Sanae Kikuta at its March 5 event at the Yoyogi National Stadium Gym in Tokyo.

That announcement however seems to have been a bit premature. MMAWeekly.com spoke with Baroni’s manager, Ken Pavia of Pavia, Ciscone & Associates, who said the fight has not yet been signed.

“World Victory Road is a viable possibility, but we have several other offers on the table and we have to weigh all of our options to make sure that we make the correct move for Phil.”

The proposed fight against Kikuta would be Baroni’s first since returning from a suspension following his June 22 bout against Frank Shamrock while fighting for Strikeforce.

“World Victory Road has made an attractive offer,” continued Pavia, “but at this point, we just haven’t had enough time to weigh all of our options and make a decision.”

Baroni and Pavia will be considering the options and an announcement regarding Baroni’s next fight should be forthcoming soon.

Lack of ticket sales. In California you have to have a sort of deposit with the CSAC guarenteeing %20 of the fighter purse.

Fedor's next fight

In the short-term, M-1 Global pushed back its U.S. debut from February to April. The promotion had the chance to book the United Center in Chicago for Feb. 16 but opted against it as fighter negotiations had not progressed accordingly. April 11 now appears to be the targeted date for either the Allstate Arena in Rosemont, Ill., or the Izod Center in East Rutherford, N.J.

Regardless of venue and date, Emelianenko is headlining the event. As for his opponent, Dutchman Semmy Schilt (Pictures) seems to have overtaken Pedro Rizzo (Pictures) and Jeff Monson (Pictures) in favor with Finkelstein and company. The three-time K-1 World Grand Prix champion made a successful comeback to MMA on Jan. 12 and will be in Moscow the second weekend in February to negotiate the details.

I just don't agree. This guy is like a dollar store version of Mirko Filipovic! You have seen him fight the exact same fights as I have. He isn't even remotely close to being a C class fighter. He has been to the big show and failed miserably.

If he fought Monson or Rothwell I would say that is at least a decent test.

Sapp…I honestly do not know. I think he needs a few more MMA fights under his belt but lets say he got 3 more fights under his belt between now and then and he won all 3. Sure ok I suppose.

Why can't Fedor fight Josh? Why aren't they making noise about it? He is out there.

LEONARD

Schilt DID take Fedor to a decision, so he can't be THAT bad...I know he hasn't been successful against top guys (Nog, Barnett, Sergei), but he's still a decent test. I just don't like it because we've seen it before...

Sapp almost killed Nog...gave him one hell of a fight. I think he could give anybody problems for a few minutes...

When people ask who the premier fighters on in MMA we think of three names…

Fedor
GSP
BJ Penn

Agree?

If Fedor is on that list why is he the only one who is years separated from competition against top talent? There has been talent out there for him to compete against. Its true there isn't a deep pool to pull from but as long Josh is out there is little excuse why he is years away from true competition.

This guy took Fedor to the distance nearly 6 years ago. 6 years is an entire evolution of MMA.

If we're talking about one of the, if not the, premier fighters in MMA this is an unacceptable trend in his career.

Mark Hunt a little over a year ago...was in the top 10 and proved he was a worthy opponent in the ring.

followed by a yr f'd up by the sale of Pride and failed negotiations with the UFC. Most of '06 was lost due to hand surgery.

Who knows why Barnett isn't happening now. I'm sure M-1 wants to save that fight for down the road if they can...

Frustrating, but I'm reserving judgement until the end of '08. See who he fights this year and see what happens with Couture.

I will concede for the sake of not bogging down this discussion the Hunt fight as being a top 10 match up.

So that’s 2 1/2 years of mismatches for what is to be the premier fighter in MMA with one true fight mixed in. (Fedor fought Mirko 08/28/05 )

That’s nearly 3 ½ years before he has a possible shot to fight Randy. In 3 ½ years he will have fought 1 legit fight amongst this sea of cans. Here ya go MMA fans, here is your champion! Viva La Boxing style!

What we’re doing here is hinging the legitimacy of a fighter now on a fight that is likely not possible.

Again, unacceptable.

This would not be an issue if this wasn’t Fedor we’re talking about. The supposed premier fighter in MMA.

umm doesn't Fedor got a clause in his contract that he can fight an UFC fighters?

The UFC does not do cross promotions with other orgs.

Fedor had a chance to sign with the UFC and declined due to the terms the UFC offerred him.

And for the record I am not venting at LEONARD...just frustrated with Fedor who is being managed exactly like a Boxer.

Boxing was the first sport I loved and I watched it systematically implode on itself with BS business moves so I get my panties in a wad when I see ELEMENTS of boxing creep into MMA.

2006 was mostly lost due to injury. (otherwise he would've been in the Open Weight GP, which would've resulted in several good matchups)

2007 was mostly lost due to Pride/UFC issues.

Give him 2008 and then let's see where he's at.

He still found time to fight someone several weight classes below him and a freak with a growth disesase. With a rules change...

Well yeah okay, but if it's realy fedor who wants an international fights and does not want the 'american' oragnization hold him and 'deciding' who he will fight?

I would also wish for the more hyped fights with the UFC opponents by Emelianenko.
I even got mad he got 'just' the rematch with Semmy. He will take him down again. I would be surprised if Semmy would win this, but Schield is accually a K-1 fighter more then the ultimate fighter. (Grapplers got the advatnage IMO)

All in all this is the last year Fedor can go full stage.

add Bodog to the 2007 failure list...and several = 3...HW to MW = 2 :p

M-1 had to do some kind of K-1 fighter for NYE and Choi was what the fans there wanted. (and he was out of the GP early and uninjured)

thats 3 1/2 years of excuses resulting in 1 fight assuming this streak ends with Randy.

Somehow everyone else manages...

LEONARD

a broken hand isn't an excuse...he fought with it many times before getting it repaired at the cyborg shop...

Many others haven't managed well either...where is Gomi? Before Yarennoka many top guys hadn't done anything in 2007...some still haven't.

a broken hand doesn't take 3 1/2 years to heal.

Those other guys are irrelevant to the discussion. Fedor is supposed to be the alpha male of MMA.

Maybe he should get a new spine at the cyborg shop....

I kid I kid!

In one of the emelianenko interviews he said that in the UFC there are mainly american fightes and he wanted to fight an international fighters on different levels (prob. techiniques).

As for UFC - I do not know what kind of insight he have on that organization. But maybe he does not want to be in hand of american organization. (which, I can only assume, can dictade him what to do).
But I'm putting a big 'if' on that one.

btw. boxing got so many belts it's not even funny.

ps. shit - I have so bad typos. Instead of 'big' I wrote 'bof' - I got a stomach virus. But damn not a head virus.

I agree with what you said earlier, to me this says see ya. This will be 4 snooze fights in a row with him.

O'Brien can take him.

Well, I think the UFC will naturally have more American fighters since it is an American company just like PRIDE had more Japanese fighters.

But no org has more international fighters than the UFC, today.

And keep in mind my argument spans from the Mirko fight until the supposed Randy fight. Roughly 3 1/2 years.

I know what you're getting at...you're assuming that he doesn't fight Barnett or somebody else this year. We've talking about Arlovski now...

How the mighty have fallen...a LnP win for O'Brien would be a huge kick in the nuts to AA. I'm guessing that negotiations didn't go well for an extension, so this is what Dana is hoping for. M-1, etc will be all over him if he ends up as a free agent though. Maybe Fedor vs AA later this year...afterall, THAT was what people wanted to see when the "Pride vs UFC" debate was raging... :fro

He did it to Herring, but Arlovski has looked horrible lately. Maybe O'Brien wont need to lay and pray.

It truly is amazing.

2 summers ago Arlovki was the great UFC hope for a legit HW. He was the poster boy for the UFC HW division. PRIDE had…so much…the UFC only had the monster with the fanged mouth guard who somehow became a timid "scared to lose" fighter.

I am not sure he will be in M-1. Something is going wrong with the "Fedor Rental Service" They have signed nobody of note. My guess is they thought they had funding and that either dried up or never appeared. I wonder how many problems Fedor taking that NYE fight without M-1's blessing caused? M-1 is a collection of people. One person rocks the boat and I imagine many people get disrupted.

If Fedor fights Arlovski or Josh I will shut up.

It's definitely not going like they thought...

No you're right. Eddie Alvarez is a solid signing.

Yeah something went terribly wrong from the day of the press conference to within a few weeks after. They were supposed to have a fight card announced ASAP.

It's not.

It's as easy as you can get.

Try to learn polish which is one of the most difficult language in the world.

Typos is normal to me as I try not to correct myself, just typing with the flow, and I got pretty fat fingers ...
btw. there are some difficult names I do not want to check how they are written, and that what happened.
