He CLAIMED that he was willing to take a back seat in NY in order to help win games. But like was mentioned he might end up with the LA Clippers so he can be re-united with his butt buddy Mobley. I actually heard too that the Mavs were supposedly interested in his services. He's a good guard when he's not griping. I mean he's still only 29.

He'll be on the Clippers with his buddy from Htown.

Anyone who wants Steve Franchise on this team should be forced to watch game film of him dribbling out the last 21 seconds of a game (and loss) to the Spurs out at midcourt waiting to go one on one for the win, and then not even getting a shot off.

No thanks.

The reason the Rockets got rid of him was his almost psychotic refusal to pass the ball, dribbling the 24 sec. clock out while he tried to be the hero one on one.
the above instance was simply one of many.

I doubt he'd be happy here. Nor would the Spurs be happy with him. This is a non-starter.

He's 30. He isn't going to learn how to use it. He's a me first ball hog. From draft night demanding to be traded, to ball hogging at the end of games (and blowing them) for Houston, to pouting and refusing to play in NY when he got benched in favor of Jamaal Crawford.

He's been an egomaniac, always has, always will be.

Is there a way to get Dwight Howard? Orlando seems to be condemned to ineptitude and bad luck. Think about their major moves since losing Shaq.

1. Penny loses his shine.
2. Tim Duncan is wooed and they are rebuffed.
3. Grant Hill is signed and promptly collapses into a fetal position for three years.
4. TMac is signed, plays too well and is shipped to Houston for the selfish Francis.
5. Ben Wallace is lost to Detroit.
6. They sign Hedo.
7. They get Darko who may yet evolve into a good NBA player but......
8. Renounce his rights so they can overpay Rashard Lewis

If anyone can screw up keeping Dwight Howard, it's the good ole Magic.

Talent wise, Francis is better than Parker. However I don't think he would be good on this team.

Athletic wise he is better than Parker, but overall now Parker is the better guard. I think IF Francis would be willing to step back and just learn how to play as a team he would be ok. But that is a big IF.

Francis has more moves and hops than Parker, but has never understood that NBA ball is not a one-on-one game at the playground. He sucks and I don't want him in SA for any price.

Now that he has been bought out, I expect Francis to join the Clippers or Lakers so he can be closer to the love of his life, Cuttino Mobley.

He would not fit at all on the Spurs, anyway.

I wonder how many so adamantly opposed to Francis in this thread will cream their shorts when Iverson joins the Spurs in '09?

I wouldn't give an automatic "no" to Francis. He's certainly had a healthy dose of reality and ego-check the last few years. Being a good cooperative backup on the Spurs could pay huge dividends for him in the future.

I wouldn't have let him pay us to be a Spur 5 years ago, but I'd be curious to see if he's matured at all as a result of his time in New York.

Looks like the Clippers want him:

Clippers' top choice: Francis
The team wants an upgrade at point guard, and the veteran's contract was bought out by the Trail Blazers.

By ART THOMPSON III
The Orange County Register

The Clippers' first step in pursuing Steve Francis was taken Wednesday when the Portland Trail Blazers requested waivers on the veteran point guard and reached an agreement on a buyout of his contract.

Terms of the buyout were not disclosed, but Francis had a guaranteed $34,250,000 owed to him for the remaining two years.

Teams can negotiate with Francis but, as per the NBA's offseason rules, he will not clear waivers until July 19, at which point he can be signed by another team.

The Clippers have a payroll of $61.5 million, which puts them over the salary cap of $55.630 million for the 2007-2008 season. However, the Clippers have their mid-level exception of $5.25 million to offer, and it is thought that it would take that entire amount to sign Francis.

Francis, 30, is a three-time All-Star, but he averaged career lows in points (11.3) and assists (3.9), while playing in a career-low 44 games last season.

When Portland acquired him last month in a draft-night trade with the New York Knicks, it was made clear that Francis did not fit into the plans of the Trail Blazers, who are attempting to make over their team with youth and good character players.

Portland took center Greg Oden with the first overall pick in this year's draft to add to a young nucleus that includes third-year players Jarrett Jack and Martell Webster, and second-year player Brandon Roy, who was last season's rookie of the year.

Francis was selected by the Vancouver Grizzlies in 1999, with the second-overall pick in the draft. But he balked at being drafted by the Grizzlies and was traded three months later to the Houston Rockets. He was co-rookie of the year that season with Chicago's Elton Brand.

Francis played five seasons with Houston before being traded in 2004 to the Orlando Magic. Orlando traded him to the Knicks in February 2006. Francis' best friend is Clippers shooting guard Cuttino Mobley. The two played together for five years in Houston and were packaged together in the trade to Orlando.

Before leaving last Sunday for the Las Vegas Summer League, Clippers coach Mike Dunleavy said offers had been made to four free agent point guards that the Clippers had targeted. However, it is acknowledged by several members of the basketball staff that Francis is the top choice.

Until the Clippers secure their point guard situation, the business with finalizing forward Yaroslav Korolev's contract remains on hold. The two sides tentatively have agreed to a one-year guaranteed deal of $800,000, with a club option for the second year

I remember him in NY him saying that he was all about winning and that he was willing to take a back seat for the good of the team. For the right price and if his attitude seems right why not.

That's what he said, but then when Isiah started Crawford ahead of him, Francis pouted, claimed he was hurt, and sulked at the end of the bench.

He said one thing, but his actions spoke differently.

I don't think that he would be stupid enough to think he would start if he came here. I'm almost 90% sure that he probably ends up with the Clippers to be re-united with his BF Mobley. But if hell would happen to freeze over and he would happen to sign with us he should just be willing to take whatever role we give him so he can get a ring. But he still seems to be an egotiscal punk so who knows..
