Access Hollywood tells NBC 10 that legendary Philly entertainment entrepreneur Dick Clark has had a stroke.

Access Hollywood didn't report Clark's condition or where he had the stroke, but did confirm Clark was hospitalized.

Last April, Clark, 75, announced he had type 2 diabetes, formerly called adult-onset diabetes, since 1994, but kept it a secret from everyone except close friends and family.

Clark is now a spokesman for the American Association of Diabetes Educators and the pharmaceutical maker Merck & Co.

Clark graduated from Syracuse University in 1951 with a degee in business administration, and he moved to Philadelphia in the early 1950s.

Clark was a Philadelphia radio disc jockey in the early 1950s, when he took over a local show, Bandstand, on WFIL-TV, after its host was involved in a drunk-driving incident.

Clark's show was a local hit and later syndicated nationally as American Bandstand.

Clark moved to Los Angeles as his entertainment empire expanded in the 1960s.

In 1973 Clark started to produce the American Music Awards Show and he hosts Rockin New Years Eve on TV.

He is currently a producer of the NBC television show "American Dreams."

Clark was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1993.
