I'm starting this thread because Sanity hijacks other threads and turns them into Chargers talk anyway. Hell, he started one about the Broncos and it ended up being a CHargers thread.
I'll start:
Phillip RIvers, while not a true sophomore, will go through a sophomore slump.

If by some freak chance hell freezes over and Norv doesn't ruin the team, they'll be in the AFC Championship Game or the Super Bowl. That's a 13-3 team with a 4-12 coach.

Well its hard to say that SD sucks since it is really between them and Denver for the Divisional Title. Oakland and KC are real weak this year IMO.
But that said both teams will win 10+ games and both make the playoffs. Shanny has had success in the playoffs and well Norv hasn't.
I don't think LT2 will put up the numbers he did last year and it will be interesting to see how Rivers handles the pressure on him. As I don't think he had a lot of pressure on him last season since most did not think he would do well.

He's gone next year, guaranteed. He deserves a big pay day, the guy is a beast. I'll really miss him and will never forget his run against the Colts to seal the deal on ending their undefeated streak. I'd love for him to accept his role on an amazing team so the Chargers can continue to have the most feared 1/2 running back combo. This year should be fun with Norv at the helm offensively (for Charger fans at least) because I'm guessing we'll be seeing a lot of LT/Turner on the field at the same time.

LT + Turner in at same time adds more weaponry.
LT and Turner in seperately gives LT rest, gives Turner more touches.
LT + Turner better then no Turner on team.
However do NFL teams have to stay under the cap?
TheSanityAnnex

Turner will command top dollar, and no way would the Chargers agree to pay him top dollar. Signing Turner would be a huge mistake as it would hamper them from signing other players that are key to a solid all around team. I'd love for Turner to take a pay cut because he likes his team, but when has that ever happened.

Yes they have a hard cap. But as Denver and SF have been busted for with creative accounting sometimes they may be able to go a little above it. but if the NFL catches it then you lose a draft pick.

Not sure if you remember this. But I found a link on what Denver did.
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A28969-2004Sep17.html
From the story.
The penalties imposed Thursday on the Denver Broncos for violations of the league's rules regarding the disclosure of deferred compensation to players and the salary cap were the second sanctions against the team for similar infractions in less than three years.
In December 2001, the Broncos were fined $968,000 and lost a third-round pick in the 2002 draft for violations reportedly relating to $29 million in deferred payments to quarterback John Elway and running back Terrell Davis.
On Thursday, the league announced that the Broncos have been fined $950,000 and will lose a third-round selection in next year's draft for circumventing the salary cap between 1996 and '98. The penalties were set in an agreement between the league, the Players Association and the Broncos and resolve a case against the team brought before the sport's special master by the NFL's Management Council in January 2003, the league announced.

San Diego Chargers: The Chargers are scary good when it comes to pure athletic talent. With RB LaDainian Tomlinson, QB Philip Rivers and DT Jamal Williams, they also have enough leadership to overcome what coach Norv Turner might lack in that department. The Chargers must remain focused through a difficult first two weeks. They open at home against Chicago and travel to New England.

Turners Redskin team went 10-6 and won their first playoff game in 1999.
Same as Belichicks tenure in Cleveland.
2 years in Oakland were a disaster for Turner, granted.
42-55 is Belichicks record after 2000, his 1st year going 5-11 in New England.
2001 was the bullshit tuck rule that gifted the Pats the win over Oakland.
While Belichicks record since then has been great and he is a great coach, he's had plenty of help, ie dumbass Martyball giving him a playoff win last year.
So lets see what Norv does from here on out, just as Belichick has done since 2000.

257-229 Atlanta with one 1st, resulting in 0-3 in playoff.
351-354 St Louis. Zero playoffs.
Atl sucked before and after Joe. Joes Atl record was the best for that era.
St Louis won the division the year after Joe left. 1996.
Norv was not my 1st choice. Whether or not he sucks in the playoffs lets let the future games decide it.

The Patriots started out 1-3 in 2001, and ended up winning a Superbowl.
two of those losses were in the BB age (Before Brady) so it doesn't apply. Unless the Chargers have a Quarterback Messiah sitting on their bench, they're fucked.

1-3 is not the end of the season, especially since the afc west seems weak. If they lose to the Broncos, the season is pretty much fucked.

these chargers will turn it around, and probably make the playoffs. they're damn lucky the rest of their division is 2-2. but the fact remains that the san diego secondary is flat out awful. they cant stop the pass to save their lives.

The division is weak this year, thank god.
About the secondary.
Clinton Hart and Marlon McCree need to be benched.
I think Weddle, although a rookie, would make a much bigger impact back there and would put a stop to all the 30 yard slants being completed across the middle.
For as long as Jammer has played corner, you'd think the guy was a rookie. On the play where KC went across the middle for the TD, Jammer was right on his man and went for a swat instead of staying with the outside shoulder and having a chance to tackle him after it was completed.
With as many top picks the Chargers have used on their secondary, you'd think they'd be good by now. AJ Smith can not draft secondary.

I'm not panicking yet like most of the dumbfuck Bronco fans who think our season is over. If we lose to the Chargers we will still probably be tied for first in our division. :lol But of course I want a win and make the Chargers 1-4. We cant stop the run so I dont know how the fuck we expect to stop LT. I hope Rivers decides to pass most the game.
3-2 going into the bye sounds good stuff. :)

Pfffffffft.
Patriots:
Bill Bellichick - Head Coach
Tom Brady - QB
Charlie Weiss - Offensive Coordinator
Romeo Crenell - Defensive Coordinator
Chargers:
Norv "I impoded two teams" Turner - Head Coach
Phillip "I don't know which way is up" Rivers - QB
Ladanian Tomlinson - RB
Yea, I can really see the comparison there. Ladanian Tomlinson aside, the Chargers are nothing like the Patriots and to make that assumption is nothing short of brilliant stupidity.
I've never been a Patriot fan, but god damn, the comparison makes no sense at all.

No where did I make the comparison of this years Chargers to the '01 Patriots, I just wanted to point out that 1-3 is not the end of the world. But lets talk about the Patriots.
You speak of Belichick as if he'd had success before '01, yet he sucked coaching the Browns. You speak of Brady as if he'd had success before '01, yet he'd never started before. Are you telling me that after the Patriots 1-3 start that you knew they'd be succesful because of all the Belichick/Brady factor when both were unproven?
Yeah, let's talk about BRILLIANT STUPIDITY.

I was basing it on your assumption that the Chargers have a chance of making it to the Super Bowl after a 1-3 start. As to Belichick, you're right, he sucked with the browns. But, he never had the talent that Norv has. You know that.
If you would have said something like, "there's still 3/4 of a season left" or "I still believe my team has a chance", I would've respected that. But, this talk about them still being able to make it to the Super Bowl???
Please.

I dont think it was that good.

Yea I thought so.
I was talking about the Pats not even being included to win the Superbowl.
They were a HUGE upset when they beat the Colts to win thier first game that year.
Thats why I was confused why you are comparing Brady to Rivers this year.
Brady was in his 2nd year and a complete Underdog.
Rivers is the AFC West favorite and were projected to have a great shot to win it all.

As much as I have enjoyed the Chargers sucking this season. The fact is they are 1 game out of first Place. And even if Denver beats them in Denver (which I think they should do) they would only be two games out. ANd lets face it the Chargers can get on a roll and make that up.
I am just shocked at how average the AFC West is playing.

Belichick failed with one team before being asked to take over a team that everyone thought was on the decline anyways. Turner failed miserably with two teams before being asked to take over a 14-2 squad.
Belichick got his reputation from being a genius defensive coordinator/assistant HC for Bill Parcells. Norv Turner got his reputation because he's buddies with Troy Aikman.
I guess I don't see the similarities between the two.

LMAO even more since Norv Turner's claim to fame is that he "develops" QB's and they have success with him.
Let's go through the list of successful QB's who played for Norv Turner -
Troy Aikman

that's it, just Troy Aikman.
NOW let's look at how many QB's were/currently are failures with Norv Turner -
Heath Shuler
Gus Frerotte
Brad Johnson
Doug Flutie
Kerry Collins
Alex Smith
Philip Rivers
:lmao this guy is fucking GREAT with quarterbacks!
If he didn't have Troy Aikman pimping him to the media, Norv Turner wouldn't have gotten another HC job after failing in Washington.
