The Rockets still have to sign Scola and according to his agent, George Bass, that could happen within a few days.

"I think the contract will come together very quickly and I see it coming together by this weekend or early next week," Bass said in an interview with FOX 26 Sports.

NBA sources told FOX 26 Friday that the Rockets already have the wheels in motion for Scola to take a physical in Buenos Aires once a contract agreement is reached.

"Our whole (agency) group is excited about getting Luis traded to Houston." Bass said.

Odd how fast Scola is signed when his rights end up with another club.

Yeah, I wonder how long Scola has been willing to sign for 3 years, $10 mil or so.

Not too odd when you look at the position and the roster. The Rockets desperately needed a change at PF. They were getting nothing out of that position. They may throw big money at him to outbid Tau since they're desperate. How that will affect their ability to sign other players is a big question over here in Houston although most folks are happy about Scola.

The Spurs on the other hand have a pretty good player who seems to be entrenched there for the next few years and an expensive Scola as backup wasn't really in their plans it looks like.

Rockets Reach 'Basic Agreement' With Scola
July 13, 2007 - 7:34 pm
Houston Chronicle -
The Rockets have come to a "basic agreement" with Argentine star Luis Scola, less than 24 hours after acquiring his draft rights from the San Antonio Spurs , the Houston Chronicle is reporting.

"We're working on the contract, but we've got a basic agreement, an understanding," George Bass, Scola's agent said Friday.

"He's actually taking the physical right now in Argentina."

The Rockets traded guard Vassilis Spanoulis, a 2009 second-round draft pick and cash to the Spurs for the rights to Scola and center Jackie Butler.

Scola is expected to sign a three-year deal worth roughly $10 million.

"He's so excited, he probably didn't sleep a wink last night." Bass said.

"He's thrilled, this has been his dream for five years."

RC Buford said following this trade that they wanted to give Luis an opportunity to play in the NBA. That should tell you all you need to know about how hard the Spurs tried to sign him.
