I just got to work and on my way to buy a monster drink I saw that they put out the Spurs dvd. I was told by a friend they were there since yesterday (sun). I got mine, there are some left if you do not want to wait. HEB #8 300 W Olmos they are by the back cashier number 14 in a case with all the reg dvds, so no one really sees them as there just mix in with them. If you ask where they are at, they may just tell you there not out yet as no one but a few of us notice them.

did anyone else notice parts in the dvd where there was static in the audio; such as during the segment when the spurs were struggling in the regular season and Pop is giving a speech at practice and in a few other players, I just want to know if anyone else is having the same problems and if I should go return the dvd and get another one. The static is really noticeable so you wouldn't miss it.

I thought this dvd was weak also, I wanted the special on Findog to be a good one instead it's about 2 mins long and weak. When they talk about the Jazz in the playoff it lasted all but 2 mins. I like some parts, but for the most part it was the weakest of the 4.

SAN ANTONIO 2007 CHAMPIONSHIP DVD REVIEW
July 16, 2007
http://blogs.mysanantonio.com/weblogs/dvd/archives/2007/07/spurs_fourth_ch.html

Spurs fourth championship DVD lacks game time
Two years ago, my second review for this column was the 2004-2005 Spurs championship DVD. Every year, the NBA puts out a DVD recapping the NBA champion's season. I didn't give a bad review, but I did find it less than stellar.

So now the Spurs have won their fourth title and have their fourth video. While the documentary is very good, and the bonus features are also well done, if somewhat dated, they deleted the game time.

On the 2002-2003 version, the DVD had the final quarters of all the clinching games in the playoffs and Finals. On the 2004-2005 version, the video contained the last quarter of Game 7 of the Finals. This one contains no game time at all; just clips.

Granted, the four-game sweep of the Cleveland Cavaliers might seem anti-climactic. In most people's opinion (including mine), the real series was the six-game war between the Spurs and the Phoenix Suns. There were some serious feelings about that series. In fact, during a recent road trip, we drove as quickly as we could through Phoenix so that no one would shoot out our "Go Spurs Go" window sticker on the back of our car.

The main hour-long feature starts out with the Spurs opening their preseason in France, quickly progresses through the rough first half of the season, glosses over the comeback in the second half, and then goes into the Spurs-Nuggets series. Even that is given short play. A fair amount of time is given to the Spurs-Suns series, so it would seem the NBA agrees that it was worth spending time on. The Spurs-Jazz series is then glossed over pretty quickly as well. It didn't even mention Derrick Fisher's coming in for Game 5 late because of his sick daughter.

The Finals take up the last 20 minutes of the documentary, but because the Spurs swept the Cavs, even that feels anti-climactic. And Eva Longoria watchers will only see her three times in this video; once as a spectator, once as she runs up to hug and kiss MVP Tony Parker after Game 4, and on the parade video as the credits roll.

Except for the lack of game time, the extras are pretty good, even if half of them are two years old or more. There's quick recaps of the 1999, 2003 and 2005 championships, short featurettes on Manu Ginobili's style of play and his trip back to Argentina after the 2005 championship (look quick and you can see an Express-News photo of him on the gym wall), and Tony Parker's rookie diary.

New features are a recap of the Spurs training camp in France, a featurette on the romance between Tony and Eva (with an amusing clip from the "Oprah" show. It was surprising that they didn't wait an extra week to get in footage about Tony and Eva's wedding. I guess we'll see it next year when the Spurs repeat.

There are also spotlight features on Robert Horry, Michael Finley and Fabricio Oberto. And finally, two "NBA Vault Top 10" sequences: Tim Duncan and the Spurs Dynasty (from the first three championships).

Since this is an official NBA product, then that must mean that the NBA is officially looking on the Spurs as a dynasty. Ah, there's the rub.

The dirty little secret that the NBA will never admit to is that they wish the Spurs had stopped with their 1999 championship. San Antonio may be the eighth largest city in America (or seventh, depending on which stats you look at), but we are considered a low television market.

If the Spurs are on TV, they win the market share in San Antonio for that night. Everywhere else, ho-hum. The NBA's idea of a dream Finals: New York and Los Angeles. Viewers who have no interest in basketball will tune in just to see the celebrities.

The nightmare scenario Finals: San Antonio and Indiana. The series between the Spurs and Nets in 2003 came pretty close to that. We do have Eva now; but San Antonio's celebrities include Tommy Lee Jones, George Strait, and David Robinson. New Jersey had, what, Joe Piscopo?:oops

The real irony here (and more than one TV pundit has noticed it) is that the "bad boy" image that so many people say turns them off to professional sports doesn't exist here in San Antonio. As Horry and Finley note on the video, this team is a family.

All of our players are good, upstanding citizens (the brutal series with the Suns notwithstanding); don't have "posses" that hang out in clubs where they get into altercations; don't have drug and steroid allegations tossed at them. This is what the doom-and-gloom people say they want to see in a professional sports team. However, when they get one in the Spurs, they tune them out.

That's okay with us here in San Antonio. As the players note in the video, the Spurs faithful are always there supporting our team. We don't riot and burn cop cars in the streets because we're happy that our team won a championship.

In my regular function as a graphic artist for the Express-News, I have been privileged enough to create graphics for the Spurs special sections; from the schedule at the beginning of the season to the Game Tracker graphs during the Finals. It's a good feeling, because I get to put my own stamp on the efforts of the Spurs; "officially" riding their coattails, as it may be.

They say, "A rising tide raises all ships." The Spurs have raised the ships of the citizens of San Antonio. Our international cadre of players has not only put our city on the U.S. map, but also the world map. So what if the rest of the country tunes us out when we're in the Finals? We know they're there; and the Spurs know they can count on us to be there, cheering them on, win or lose.

It wasn't an awesome DVD, but it was pretty good. A lot of it seemed to be a rehash of the 2005 DVD. I liked the beginning when they were talking about the fans of San Antonio probably the best. The Tim-Pop relationship stuff we've all seen a hundred times, but overall I think it was pretty decent, pretty much what you expect.

I guess I must be pretty starved for Spurs entertainment (being outside of Texas) because I thought the DVD was pretty good. Granted, the 2003 DVD was far superior, but still, overall, I was happy with my purchase.

What does everyone expect the dvd to have? A full game? I thought it was good, not great, but good! Like another poster pointed out, it's the "SPURS DVD", and anything about the Spurs I'm going to enjoy.

However, I did point out on another post that the NBA should look the hire NFL Films to do their dvd's. NFL Films have been doing highlight films since the early 1960's, so they would know how to put together a dvd like this. With NFL films doing the editing, dramatic music, and Harry Kalas doing the narration, this dvd would've definitely have kicked ass!! By the way, Harry Kalas was the voice of NFL Films after John Facenda died.

Why the hell have they taken all the game footage out of the Spurs Championship DVDs?? They know people love to watch the clinching 4th quarters. They had all of them in 2003, only one in 2005, and none in 2007. WTF?? It really pisses me off when they take out the portions that fans really want to see.....

I thought the DVD was decent. The commentary was really good by all the players. I just wish they would have spent more time on the Utah series...that was the conference finals!

And I've seen all the extra stuff basically on NBA TV...I did like the Paris Training Camp stuff...That was something new. I wanted more new stuff...

I'm glad that Oberto/Horry/Fin had their sections. I just wish Bowen would have gotten a piece, too. And I've noticed that Duncan didn't really have a specific section for himself...

In the Cavs/Spurs finals, I think there should have been some more focus on Manu in Game 4, I mean he was huge during that game. I'm very glad that TP got a ton of coverage...I just wanted Manu and Timmy to also get enough coverage...And in the Suns/Spurs series, in Game 6 especially, that was Manu at his best...It didn't seem like there were any highlights of him...and Timmy too, for that matter.

What I did love was Timmy hugging Bruce/Tony/Manu when they were taking their picture after the win, with Robert's voice over saying "This is a true family...the team loves one another so much..." I think it basically represent the team as a strong unit...with nothing fake at all about it. What you see is what you get...The Spurs won the championship as a true team in every sense of the word...That's very rare. And I'm still amazed by how unselfish all the players are. That makes me proud to be a fan of a team with no ego.
