I'm actually more libertarian than you give me credit for. I think marijuana and a small select other natural drugs should be legalized. I think victimless crimes are one of the greatest infringements on our freedoms. I believe in our country as laid out by our forefathers and the constitution. My primary conservative viewpoints are derived form believing in personal responsibility. Liberals tend to not give a shit about personal responsibility.

By no stretch of the imagination do I agree with the so-called "death penalty for all" proposition offered by Wild Cobra however, to suggest having your life completely trashed -- sometimes beyond repair by an identity thief, burglar, or robber is anything but mundane.

There's a person in our extended family who was shot by a mugger and is now severly handicapped. This person went from being a professional making six figures to being dependent on 24 hour care for life and costing six figures a year (or more) -- a life that is going to be much shorter, due to the injuries, than it would have been had they not been assaulted.

I certainly think the death penalty could be extended beyond just murder under certain circumstances. This two strikes and your toast law on child molestation or sexual assault, just signed by Governor Perry, is a good start.

1) Meet other people with an actual opinion. I dont know if you all share the same disdain I have for people without an opinion. So wrapped in who Tom Cruise is banging this year, they wouldnt know who Vladamir Putin is if they seen him in a picture under the Russian flag. Or Kim Jong Il, Chirac, etc (sorry for any misspellings). And these people seem to outnumber people with an opinion on a 10:1 basis. My perfect example...The Club (http://spurstalk.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=7). Mind you, I post there often as well...but exclusively?! Whatever....

2) Ingest all opinions, most importantly the ones you do not agree with. If everyone in the world thought the same, entertainment would be an undiscovered word in any language. Along with words like 'struggle', 'perseverance' and 'accomplishment' to name a few. Maybe most importantly, 'hero'. The world is a big place. I readily admit my faults and laugh at myself quite often.

DR, San Antonio is really not a SS as you describe and
of course the Spurs has proven themselves as a great
team and unlike most of the NBA they stay out of
jail, don't shoot people, cause riots or otherwise act like
a bunch of hooligans. In other words they act like what
they should be upstanding citizens who set an example
for the youngen's to follow.

We, here on this forum, are not movers and shakers but
we all have opinions and fully express them daily.

Tell you a little story, nothing to do with this thread. But
I was going through Detroit on my way to Port Huron, I was
on Grand Ave, I think. I had a small baby at the time, we
were on our way to Canada and had friends in Port Huron.
Anyhow the little one started raising cain because she was
hungry and it was rush hour. Anyhow I pulled over at
a bar and walked in with a baby bottle, I was all of about
23 at the time and the bartender came over to me and
ask what I would have and I ask him if he would fill the
bottle with milk and warm it up and after the laughter
died down from all the patrons he did just that, filled it
up and warmed it for me. No charge if I remember
correctly. So it wasn't always a SS. I have some good
memories of it.

Tell you a little story, nothing to do with this thread. But
I was going through Detroit on my way to Port Huron, I was
on Grand Ave, I think. I had a small baby at the time, we
were on our way to Canada and had friends in Port Huron.
Anyhow the little one started raising cain because she was
hungry and it was rush hour. Anyhow I pulled over at
a bar and walked in with a baby bottle, I was all of about
23 at the time and the bartender came over to me and
ask what I would have and I ask him if he would fill the
bottle with milk and warm it up and after the laughter
died down from all the patrons he did just that, filled it
up and warmed it for me. No charge if I remember
correctly. So it wasn't always a SS. I have some good
memories of it.

My father, uncles, aunts, etc still tell stories of when they were growing up, when everyone actually lived in the City of Detroit. But when they were about 15 years old, it all went to shit. The Great White Flight as they call it.

You used to see bumper stickers saying "If youre the last one out, turn the lights off" with a picture of I-75 and the skyline behind a car.

Now you know why I say times were not that bad then.
And I do long for them sometimes. It was a simple life
in many ways, but we still faced the same problems
that everyone faces today. Money was short but
prices were reasonable. Chuck roast was .39 cents a
pound and so on and forth. My first child cost me
$75.00 for the doctor, the whole nine months and the
hospital bill was about 65.00 dollars and it really wasn't
that long ago. 1950. It was a lot in those days, but
the doctor would let you pay it out and the hospital the
same. Of course I think I made about 3500 a year
back then. Funny thing, dimm-o-craps were in charge
and I paid taxes on that. Not a lot, but I paid. I could
go back a dig out some of my old tax forms, yeah, I
still have them, I think. I throw nothing away.
