I think we have a good chance at 50 wins after the All Star Break.

Melmart1

Yeah, the A's are notorious for being a 2nd half team, but they just don't have it this year, IMHO. Too many bullpen injuries and not enough offense to make up for the mediocre pitching. In fact, not enough offense, period.

I think the Rangers can overtake them for sure, and end up a respectable team. I also think that they have the potential to steal at least one of the series against Cleveland.

One step at a time - they faltered a bit in LA, but taking one out of three in a place where you've previously dropped 23 out of the last 27 doesn't look quite as bad. They got a jump on Oak and need to win tonight to get back on track.

They BARELY lost the first game in the angel series. and split the last 2. They could have won the series.

Tejada with yet another poor outing.....

But Rangers still winning 9-4

BeerIsGood!

Damn, I keep waiting for Tejeda to turn it around, but the guy just doesn't seem to throw quality strikes. He either walks people (6 walks for the 2nd straight time) or grooves fast balls or hanging off speed right down the pipe for people to tee off. The Rangers got lucky that they're playing the As in this start and that the As are playing embarassingly bad. Against a better team those 6 walks would have been costly.

The bullpen is money right now, but they aren't going to be able to last the whole season like this unless our SP's can eat up a few more fuckin innings.

That was a really good game late. Good, exciting ball to watch. I liked the HR call from Lewin - "Vasquez Putz it in the stands!!".

I think a + .500 record is very possible and even probable at this point. If they keep playing well and the pitching continues to perform they'll be over .500 on the season.

this is the type of bullshit that always fucking happens to the Rangers - sweep the Mariners only to completely negate it by getting their sorry asses swept by the fucking Royals.

That's why the firesale needs to continue. Sosa, Tex, Wilkerson, Gagne, whoever else, the whole lot of them need to be traded away and a true rebuilding needs to happen.

Wilkerson reminds me of that shitty couch I used to have. We went out and bought new couches and put our shitty couch on the curb hoping that someone would drive by and see it and take it. a week later that piece of shit was still there, and we had to take that mother fucker to the dump.

that's the one thing that worries me about this rebuilding. Hicks is an idiot, no doubt.....but if Daniels truly sucks ass and hasn't just had some bad luck on a few trades, then we're totally fucked. It looks like Ron Washington is the right man for the job as far as manager is concerned though, IMO.

With all of the pieces that the Rangers have that are enticing on some level to teams in the PO race it's going to be on the GM to make it work. It could either be a Marlin's Championship type rebuilding with successful prospects aquired and grow together with a few vets, or it could be disasterous with bad moves and bad management. That said, I'm not too confident in JD. I hope he proves me wrong.

Wilkerson was the best we could get for Soriano?
Rangers management has a serious problem with not knowing the value of our guys and then trading them for shit. Soriano strikes out alot and doesn't play defense, so forget the fact that he's a guaranteed 30/100 or better hitter, all we can get is fucking Wilkerson. Chris Young has a weak arm and Adrian Gonzalez won't pan out, so let's dump them for a reliever and Adam Eaton. This team doesn't scout for shit.

This has turned out to be a damn good game. First Michael Young hits a game tying HR in the bottom of the 9th, then he gets tossed in the bottom of 11th on what looked like a bad 3rd strike call that preceded Young exploding on the Ump. Then Wash came out and really exploded on the ump and got his money's worth before walking away and yelling "Stupid Mother Fucker!!" on his way to the dugout. I've never seen Young tossed before that I can remember.

Melmart1

Man, I can't believe this game is still going on.

The ump is a cocksucker.

BeerIsGood!
08-07-2007, 01:12 AM
The ump was definitely a cocksucker. I kept hoping they'd score a cheap run because I was afraid Eyre was going to blow it after CJ was lifted. Unfortunately that A's pitcher was throwing stuff just as nasty as CJ.

Who was that pitcher that threw the two innings prior? That guy had sick stuff, and I think I heard they got him for Milton Bradley. Either the change of scenery did him wonders or the Padres got raped on that deal.

60-72 with 30 games to go.

getting to .500 would mean going 21-9 in these last 30 (ha!)

but there's no denying that this team has showed a TON of potential and has played alot better since the Dark Cloud Of Teixeira has been removed from the clubhouse.

I don't think it's unrealistic to think that this team can win at least 15 of these final 30.

76 wins or better and this season is definitely a "moral victory" and something to build on for next year, where this team will only get better.

at least some real progress is being made. And no John Hart to fuck it up.

Melmart1
08-31-2007, 07:34 PM
Those are all great points, mono. Here is some more silver lining for this season:

With Millwood's performance and another flawless night by the bullpen, the Rangers are all but assured of a sub-4.00 ERA for August – they're at 3.65 heading into tonight's game. Combine that with their 3.95 ERA for July and the Rangers will likely string together back-to-back months below 4.00 for the first time since 1992.

http://www.dallasnews.com/sharedcontent/dws/spt/baseball/rangers/stories/083107dnsporanglede.34b7d2f.html

After beginning the season 23-42, the Rangers have made quite a turnaround, posting a 38-30 record the last 68 games.

Sammy Sosa capped off the Rangers' victory with a solo home run and an RBI single. Millwood, however, was the most impressive with a 2.12 ERA in his last four starts.
"He's locked in at what he's trying to do and he's executing," Washington said. "He's just being the bulldog we thought he'd be."

monosylab1k
09-02-2007, 03:18 AM
This team has a lot of "fighters" in the clubhouse - guys that may not be the most talented but they go out there and fight like hell. they've got Michael Young & Byrd to set the example for the offense, and Millwood & Wilson to do so for the pitching. This team is slowly fitting into Ron Washington & Jon Daniels' vision of what this team should be, and there is definitely alot to be happy about. They've got an offense with the potential to put up big runs every game, and when Millwood, McCarthy, & Gabbard are on their game, that's a potent top-3 for ANY team's pitching rotation.....add in Padilla when he's focused, and hopefully Harrison or Volquez pans out, and that could be a VERY GOOD rotation next season.
