the cowboys are the yankees and lakers. espn will drill us into the gound with this ratings bullshit propoganda.....and frankly I hate it already. the cowboys just aren't the cowboys I remember. in the 70's to the mid 80's(even the early 90's). I can't remember such obvoius media bias toward these teams.

You'll be loving them when they win the Super Bowl.
The Boys don't need fans like you.
Thick and thin, losing or winning . . . I will ALWAYS be a Cowboys Fan.

How about this cowpig fans. I hate them now and I always have. Their a disgusting organization and they stink of hype and favoritism from head to toe. Any organization that would hire a Terrell Owens has got to be crap. And yes of course they are the darlings of the league and of the networks. I say who gives a shit? And then there is their owner. This guy is such a media hungry nut that he cannot stand to be out of the spotlight for more than a day. And that America's team stuff has always been a bunch of bullshit hype to me. First, it's "they're" not "their".
Second, stinking of favortism???
5 Super Bowls and 9 Super Bowl appearances, along with the best playoff winning percentage, makes them pretty worth the hype.

You mean how the Colts did every year up until last year?
The Cowboys are talked about for the same reason the Yankees and Lakers are because they are a huge story. Everytime they play, they bring in huge ratings. Everytime they are good, their respective league is at it's best save the MJ era of the 90s in the NBA.
The Cowboys have been the most successful team in the superbowl era and they aren't going to stay down forever and it FRIGHTENS all of you that this is true. You don't really think the Lakers and Yankees will never win another championship, don't you. Winning franchises don't stay down for long.
And threadstarter. You probably was never a true Cowboy fan to begin with. If you was, we'd call you a fairweather fan.

Personally I think the cowboys have always received this much attention. It just seems like more because they have not been succesfull over the last 10 years. The reason they are getting so much now is because the media mostly agrees that they have a talented team top to bottom and have a very good chance of coming out of the NFC, you may not agree with them but that is how they see it.

This is like saying the Boston Celtics are hot shit because they won a bunch of championships back before half the people on this board were even born. The Cowboys haven't done shit in like, what 12 years? I'd say that's been down for a long time. And if by some Act of God the Cowboys get past the wild card game, they're still going to get prison raped by the Saints like last season.
Hey, at least Tony Romo is dating Carrie Underwear or whatever. I bet he sleeps better at night because of that, even though he choked on his own dick in the playoffs.
Yeah Peyton did his fair share of choking too. But so did Elway before he won a ring. And last I checked Elway is considered one of the best to ever play the game. Reminds me of the saying "things get worse before they get better"

Romo didnt lose that game, Terry Glenn's fumble and the ref overturning a jason Witten 1st down with no evidence lost that game
Yeah, Gramatica lost that game. If he had tried to tackle Jordan Babineaux at all, Romo would have scored. Two huge chokes within seconds of each other.

There are some teams that I don't like because the media jerks them off all the time, like the Suns and Lebron in the NBA. And growing up in SA, I don't feel like I owe it to anyone to be a Cowboys fan. I'm loyal to the Spurs because that's all I had to look up to growing up. Plus I vacationed in Indy a few times when I was in high school, got to go to the RCA Dome and go on the field and stuff. I hate it when people call me a bandwagoner because I buy league pass and watch all the games. I already have tickets to the season opener in Indy against the Saints. I doubt any Peyton bandwagoners are going to spend almost $1000 just to see their favorite team raise a championship banner.
Cowboys are just one of those teams that gets a lot of press. Even though I hate Dallas it's a good sports town. And with Parcells and TO going at it all year, why wouldn't that shit be all over TV. I thought most of it was pretty good entertainment, especially the TO "suicide attempt".

I can totally understand the hate for the Boys. My dad was a diehard fan, and used to take me to games, buy me jerseys and what-not, so it just seemed natural to root for them (same with the Stros). I am with you on the Spurs and for me, it was the same way with the Cowboys. The Oilers were there too and I did like them until they moved, but the Cowboys were special to me as a kid.
You are right, IMO, as well about not being a Cowboys fan. Just because you grow up in a certain area does not mean you are obligated to root for the team that others around you root for. You root for a team because you have some attachment to them. It could be geography, family, their style of play, their players, anything. Hell, I had a GF in 7th grade who liked the Steelers because of their colors! :lol
The media thing is puzzling. I understood it when Dallas was winning SB's but now? Don't get me wrong, as a Dallas fan I enjoy it though. However, having been on the media side I understand that they go for what gets attention. For some reason ESPN feels that the Cowboys still garner a lot of attention. I would imagine its mostly TO but it can't be just him. Their target demographic is 18-35 and 35-50 year olds..mostly men and in that order. To those groups, the Cowboys are still popular...not necessarily well liked, but popular. As with other teams with historical success, there are just as many, if not more people interested in that team's failures as there are in that team's success. Still, I think if you win the title, you deserve the most attention.
Just a thought.

While I don't personally believe hate belongs in Sports, I agree with that. I like the Rangers and the Stars but not the Mavs.
I think its maybe the fact that my mom is from Texas and my dad is from New Jersey and is a Jets fan and she once told me(not surprisingly after their divorce) "No way in Hell is my son rooting for a team up north!" :lol
Yeah my dad played ball in high school and college, but his side of the family is from Florida so I was always getting T shirts from The U and Dan Marino jerseys when I was a kid. Even though I really didn't give a shit about the Dolphins, free jerseys are still cool. My dad actually took me to a Cowboys game a few years ago when they played Miami...I didn't wear any Miami shit because I was an Indy fan by then, but my dad and some drunk got into an argument after the game b/c Miami won...that shit was pretty funny. Then me and my homeboy went to a Spurs-Mavs game in Dallas and the Mavs lost and he got made fun of by Mavs fans...Can Dallas sports fans not handle losing a game? :lol
My stepdad was a huge Cowboys fan and he tried to convert me, but I hated that fag. So I would always wear my Florida stuff just to piss him off.

That is where I have a problem. Root for whoever you want to, but don't try and make me do the same or feel bad for who I root for.
Sadly, I had some friends who got shit thrown at them for wearing Eagles stuff in Texas Stadium. There weren't talking trash to anyone and in fact got along well with the people right next to them. Also, I know of someone who went to a Mavs-Spurs playoff game last season and her 14yo daughter was spit on for wearing a Spurs t-shirt. You get a few drunk assholes who ruin it for everyone and that can be at any arena or stadium.
I think the biggest challenge I've had to deal with as an Indy fan was the AFC championship this year, because my roommate was a Pats fan. Also, my girlfriend at the time was from Boston, and she refused to watch the game with me. So I'm watching the game with my roommate and during the whole first half she is sending text messages to me, most of them are just stupid shit like "hahaha omg this is so pathetic!"
My roommate goes back into his room at halftime and is like, this game is over, etc.
I got the last laugh in the end!
Cowboys fans around campus are usually pretty cool...I used to wear my Peyton jersey a lot but then I'd get people saying "Hey Peyton Manning what's up!" so I started wearing Marvin and bought a Vinatieri last season. I talked a lot of shit before the Cowboys and Colts played in the reg season last year and got ripped pretty good after that one.

And you know this how? Because they did this last year. The Eagles fucked us in 2004, yet we swept them in 2005. Just because you beat a team one year, doesn't mean we will do so the next. This is the salary-cap era and free agency era NFL. Predicting shit like that is unlikely to become true nowadays. And quit acting like the Cowboys are that far away from winning the NFC. The conference is still wide-open.
But the Cowboys are use to winning. I'm very sorry if you don't believe this, but it's true. Winning is part of the Cowboys tradition but we are in a down period. Won't stay there for long. The Lakers went how many years w/o winning a championship? The Yankees went how many years w/o winning a championship? Hell we went 15 fuckin years between championship 2 and championship 3. I think this little 12 year stretch is actually very normal for winning franchises.

The Cowboys are a team that you either love them or love to hate them. You may not care about the Cowboys. But you do have an opinion of them. And certain teams in certain leagues brings this aura with them. It doesn't help that the Cowboys MAY have the largest fanbase in all of the NFL.

Generalize much?
A lot of Cowboys fans are just like other fans...they root for their team and that's it. Like every other fan base, there are Cowboy fans that are jerks. There are some that I don't even want to be around and I have rooted for the Cowboys since the 70's. Apparently the ones you have been around fall into the jerk category....that sucks but it is not indicative of the entire fanbase.
I also like living in an era when my favorite teams have won all their championships, not growing up by having family or friends try to get me onto the bandwagon. I am going to look back on this era of my life and be like, damn, this was so cool. Especially the Spurs stuff since I'm SA native.

Why Romo's fumble gets so much attention and Terry's fumble doesn't is beyond me. The Cowboys had the game pretty much in hand when Terry fumbled that ball and the Seahawks got that safety then touchdown on the next possession. Even though the Romo fumble was big, with the way the Cowboys defense was playing, even if they would had been able to convert that field goal there's no guarentee that the defense would have been able to hold.

yes. because the playcalling on defense was vanilla. We lacked aggressiveness in the new 3-4 scheme. We did not put our players in the position to make plays. Credit the Sean Payton for knowing this team from top to bottom. He knew what plays we ran. He knew how conservative we was. He knew the offense and the defense we played. He does not know this version now.

I've been a Cowboys fan since birth in the late 60's, but I have to tell you, it gets harder to get excited about them every year. The more I think about what I like about the Spurs, the harder it is to muster enthusiasm for the Cowboys. With the clubhouse full of giant egos (starting with the owner) and the focus on making dramatic moves over finding smart pieces that mesh well together, sometimes it seems like they're the anti-Spurs.
I'm glad Parcells is gone and I'm glad the cocaine-and-hookers era is over, but it seems like as long as Jerry's still running things, flash and drama will always be a big part of the team.
I'll always root for them -- they're my team. But I'd like to see a regime change (starting with the owner), and I wish they had a little more smarts and humility and a lot less drama.

Actually, Jones has tuned it down a couple of notches. He really is all about the team. He chose the right coach (Phillips is a defensive genius, just ask the Chargers). And, he even thought about cutting Owens loose, and Owens knows it. That's why you haven't heard that much out of him.
There really isn't all that much flash and drama comming out to the Boys as of late. The only character that even comes close to fitting that description is Romo, but he's just an excited kid that loves playing football. If you don't believe me, just read his interviews.
This Cowboys team is a lot more low keyed than the Cowboys of the 90s.

I hope you're right. I have trouble being optimistic about these things.
It would be nice if a decade of mediocrity has finally taught Jerry his lesson.

I think the stints with Gailey and Campo have really humbled him. And, as much as everybody talks shit about him, I also think he learned a couple of much needed lessons from Bill Parcells.
Jones is much more open to other people's input now. He's shown a softer, lighter side of him. But, then again, it will all change if they don't win some games.
Im tired of people saying the Boys suck. We had the dark days of the Campo era, but we're a different team and we made the playoffs last season. IMO we are one of the top 10 teams in the NFL.
You either suck or are called chokers until you win the Super Bowl. I had to put up with it for years, so why should you get a free pass? Enjoy the fact that your team has won before and you have memories of that.
Before last year the best memories I have as a Colts fan is Peyton breaking records and winning MVPs. I'd trade those records and MVPs in for more Lombardis in a heartbeat.

You seem to have forgotten Johnny Unitas.

Where would you put the Boys?
Colts-2
Chargers-1a
Ravens-3
Patriots-1b
Broncos-4 (not where I'd put them on a list involving all AFC teams..)
...///...
Saints-4
Seahawks-5
Bears-1
Eagles-3
Cowboys-2
If the Eagles are healthy this year, they will give the Cowboys a fight for the East. I think a lot of critics are underestimating them, same as last year. Boys lack of depth along some places hurts, but since they seem to have a better pass rush, I'll give them the 2nd. Saints' O definetly better than 4th.

That's what I meant . . . I should've put NFC on top of that list.

Yeah, Gramatica lost that game. If he had tried to tackle Jordan Babineaux at all, Romo would have scored.
That is something called holding....the refs would have called it.....the Cowboys still would not have scored.
