that Donaghy was probably calling more fouls in an attempt to affect the over/under on games (as predicted by someone here), that makes the Spurs just about dead last on the list of teams to try this on, because of their defense and their free throw shooting.

Actually the fact that the Spurs finally bothered to learn them well enough to claw their way up to the middle of the pack says it all. Only after they had a ref in their pocket did Pop bother to even have them practice free throws. Take off your homer glasses.

Not to mention the fact that calling an abundance of fouls on the Suns put them in a tough position to win the game.

Theres no question about it, the Suns got screwed.

Since it was an attempt to increase scoring, he wouldn't have tried to hamstring the team that scores all the points. There goes your argument. Or are you going to point to the fact that the guy who led the league in fouls and disqualifications was in foul trouble again? :lol

Do you really think a ref is going to rely on Tim Duncan to make all his free throws to get the score over the over/under??

Yea Tim Duncan is such a fantastic free thrower thats why all Spurs fans never wince when he goes to the line.

Raja Bell fouled out of at least two other games in that series. Which official was on the take for those, again? How does sending Timmy to the line increase the over/under? How does putting the Suns' players on the bench increase the over/under? If you wanted to increase the over/under, you'd take the Spurs defenders out of the game. Again, your logic is as flawed as your team.

Donaghy was just the tip of the iceberg. It will come out that every ref in a game the Suns lost was on the take. In addition, there was a season-long conspiracy to call a lot of fouls on Amare Stoudemire so that it wouldn't look suspicious when he fouled out in the playoffs.

There is no other possible explanation, except that Suns fans are the most gutless pussies on Earth, and will grasp at the most absurd straws to make excuses for their team.

Maybe this newest level of PhxSuns team and fan's denial encapsulates and stunts any growth for improvment they were to naturally undergo after a semis loss.

One can observe an environment of seething vengefulness, circuitous logic building up energy that has no outlet. That kind of artificiality is a bitter, sterile ground for planting seeds of hope for a better season.

The media consortium recognize that animosity and exploit it to create hype.

Better for Phoenix fans and team to focus their energies on preparing for the upcoming '07/08 season.

It starts with the team leaders changing their focus and that attitude filters on down through staff, to media, and then to fans.

Unless they as a group decide to move on, it would appear that Phoenix Basketball will remain frozen for a long time in the desert, that summer of year 2007.

No, see actually Donaghy got outed because he was fixing the game for the mob, so he was conflicting with the way the other refs were fixing the game for Stern. It was all the other refs that had it in for Phoenix.

These conspiracy things get complicated.

Exactly. The productive thing to do after a loss is to refocus all your energies on identifying anywhere that you weren't good enough, and working your butts off to improve there.

As far as the Suns are concerned, their team is perfect and they just got shafted. Instead of focusing on improving, that tends to lead to complacency -- if you're just going to get shafted anyway, what's the incentive to get better.

Phoenix needs a good old-fashioned buttkicking this next postseason if they're ever going to start doing what it takes to win a title.

While Phoenix fans have been ridiculous, we should all be sad and pissed off that a ref in a crucial playoff game was corrupt. Even if he was only trying to influence the over/under, Suns fans AND Spurs fans should be upset about this. Since the Spurs won the series 4-2, and Phoenix shot more free throws than S.A. in the series, I think it is safe to say t he Spurs were the better team. But no one wants it to be this way, where an official in a crucial game was calling fouls with the intent to influence the game in some way.

In a live radio broadcast on Friday July 20th current ESPN writer Marc Stein is reporting that Donaghy was working a side job as time keeper in the 2003-04 Spurs vs. Lakers game 5 where Derek Fisher made the winning shot with .4 of a second left on the clock. Stein says he had $20K riding on the Lakers and started the clock .2 seconds late enabling Fisher to make the game winning buzzer beater and keeping the Spurs from a 3-peat.

everytime i see timmy at the line I settle back all relaxed in my chair and casually sip my beer, grinning the sheer grin of uber happiness. Thinking 'oh yeah baby, we gots this one in the bag!' especially in home games during the regular season.

and then I fart for good measure.
