Two questions:

I recently moved up to Amarillo and haven't located a good mechanic yet, but at my last brake check the guy said my two rotors needed to be replaced. They were willing to do it for $280. How much should this cost?

Also, I've had trouble starting my car recently. It will turn over just fine, then die within 1-2 seconds and then not start up again until I let it rest for 15 minutes and crank for a long time. This has been happening for the past 2 years, but just recently its happened more frequently. Any ideas what it could be?

PCV valve, starter relay, fuel injection, loose distributor?

Thanks for any help you can give.

Rotor work could concievably run 200-300. So it doesn't seem too out of line.

Car dying could be clogged fuel pump....hell it could be anything. I'd just start with a tune up and see if that takes care of it.

..without knowing what kind of car you drive, the rotor work price could be either good or bad...call a local dealer and see how much the rotors cost and add about $100 for labor....

...your other problem sounds like a fuel issue.....probably a fuel pump....

good rotors will run you at least $200 - the wagner thermal quiets are great, and you can find them at o'reillys. if you just need the rotors turned you can also get that done at an auto parts store for under $50. brake work isn't that hard to do, either. especially with newer model cars.
