I think Bowen did a good job defensively on T-Mac most of the game (despite the last 35 seconds). Before the last minute of the game, Bowen limited T-Mac to only 20 pts. But then, TD fouled him on a 3's (which gave him 4 pts). And then, T-Mac hitted a coupled 3's. Bowen already did all he could (hands up challenging the shot). So, it was good defence by Bruce but better offence by T-Mac.

And you don't expect Bowen to make players like T-Mac to go (i.e: 0-20 FG, 0 pts) and call that a "good" defence.

His .526 percentage is fairly pedestrian, but readily explained by the fact that he's also the second losingest coach in NBA history with 908 losses. Phil Jackson, who never met a team with two All NBA players that he didn't like has the highest win percentage, followed by Pat Riley.
