...kill first, ask questions never....
Terminate em....
Robots have been roaming the streets of Iraq, since shortly after the war began. Now, for the first time -- the first time in any warzone -- the machines are carrying guns.
After years of development, three "special weapons observation remote reconnaissance direct action system" (SWORDS) robots have deployed to Iraq, armed with M249 machine guns. The 'bots "haven't fired their weapons yet," Michael Zecca, the SWORDS program manager, tells DANGER ROOM. "But that'll be happening soon."
The SWORDS -- modified versions of bomb-disposal robots used throughout Iraq -- were first declared ready for duty back in 2004. But concerns about safety kept the robots from being sent over the the battlefield. The machines had a tendency to spin out of control from time to time. That was an annoyance during ordnance-handling missions; no one wanted to contemplate the consequences during a firefight.
So the radio-controlled robots were retooled, for greater safety. In the past, weak signals would keep the robots from getting order for as much as eight seconds -- a significant lag during combat. Now, the SWORDS won't act on a command, unless its received right away. A three-part arming process -- with both physical and electronic safeties -- is required before firing. Most importantly, the machines now come with kill switches, in case there's any odd behavior. "So now we can kil lthe unit if it goes crazy," Zecca says.

While I disapprove of the very existence of firearms...
That's just bloody cool.
Until the first malfunction kills someone, anyway.

Dude, you realize that someone is controlling the robot don't you? If you clicked on the link and watched the video you would have seen that the remote controlling of the robot is only good up to 800-1000 meters, therefore, people will be keeping an eye not only on the robot, but inside the robot as well.
My point being, A.) you're an idiot.
B.) Pretty sure they'd notice someone strapping an IED to it.
Do you hate everything our military does or is it strictly locked on to Iraq?

$60,000 each, pretty good investment. Call me when these things aren't controlled by people.

not sure how much of baghdad is an open 800-1000 meter field. If we could get them out in the open, wouldn't have much need for a robot, dipshit. You think they might have to use them in a city setting, moron? Down alleys, narrow streets and passages? idiot.

Jackass, you know you don't have to be in an 800-1000 meter field in order to physically see the robot you are controlling.
Furthermore, they have a fucking camera on them, so they could be well barricaded behind something and get to see everything that's going on around the robot.
Face it dude, anything American Military, you automatically hate.

My bad, I forgot that I was talking to the "troll" of the political forum and that you know all about every subject.
Is this sort of like the time you spouted off the "fact" in regards to KBR and it's construction work in Iraq?
You talk so much shit and yet you never back it up.
Again, you are the "troll" of the political forum.

The things have 4 mounted cameras, I'm pretty sure no one is going to sabotage them without being seen.

plus they are cheap enough to have 3 or 4 going down the street at a time.. one would cover the rest going down the street... then you back them up with real snipers and you have a pretty good shot at anything that moves...
those things are pretty incredible from the video I saw... you can mount grenade launchers on one to know down walls...
In the end anything that saves american lives in combat is a good thing...

good point. I just doubt their effectiveness and their ability to clear an area of enemy with any reliable, intelligent accuracy.
