San Antonio Express-News

Spurs forward Bruce Bowen on Thursday made his third visit in seven days to Dallas Cowboys training camp at the Alamodome. Express-News Cowboys beat writer Tom Orsborn caught up with Bowen, who visited with quarterbacks Tony Romo and Brad Johnson after the workout.
What brings you out here again?

brother-in-law wanted to meet Tony (Romo) and Brad Johnson. Seeing that I have a guest pass right now, I figured I could get him here. I enjoyed it. Brad Johnson and I have a mutual friend in (Utah Jazz guard/forward) Matt Harpring.
The Spurs open the season on Oct. 30 at home against Portland and No. 1 pick Greg Oden. Are you afraid that getting your championship rings that night might distract you from the business at hand?

It's always difficult in that type of situation because everyone is so excited about receiving their rings and it is hard to keep that focus. We have to understand that we have a game to play and are starting a new season. But we've been there before. Guys can reflect on what we did in the Finals and say, 'We have to keep our focus.' We'll get the rings, put them to the side and get on to our business.

Can you guys repeat as champs this season?

The thing I am really happy with, and this is the first time it has a happened for us, we have the whole team that won the championship coming back. Not a lot of people understand that, but we do.

Have you talked to Tony since he got back in town to rehab the ankle he sprained in France while preparing for the European Championships?

No, I haven't talked to him. He wouldn't talk to me. He's talking to the right people, our trainers. Tony will be all right. Over here, he'll get a chance to rehab it the correct way. I was over in France, not to say they don't know how to handle certain situations, but we have top medical people here.

Would it have been better had Parker rested this summer after such a long season?

No. I would love to represent my country. I think it is an honor. He understands that as well. And you can't say he wasn't going to play 48 minutes a game. It's something to help him stay in shape in the offseason and work on his game. It's unfortunate. But he will be all right.
Did referee Tim Donaghy play a role in you guys winning the title?

What?

Unlike the people threatening to sell their season tickets because the Spurs traded Jackie Butler... Bowen seems to like the idea of having the same team back. Why? CHEMISTRY

The dallas ticket guy...corby davidson asked bruce the last question while Bruce was doing an interview on the field a couple days ago. The ticket was webcasting their training camp so it was funny to see how bruce reacted. He literally back pedaled 5 steps saying he had practice. Corby started walking toward the sidelines in the direction of the webcam which was up on press row continuing his bit. The funny part was as corby walked away, the entire group of about 10 guys who had been around bruce picked up their gear quickly congregated around bruce again and continued the interview. The rest of the guys from the ticket were rolling at the scene. The view from the webcam was great.
