I was hoping Beno would fall in love this summer with a super fit, Vegan girl who would make him healthy and happy.

I wish my sister was 20 years younger. She would have Beno in great shape. Good for him. She could finally get married. Good for her. And Beno would be my brother-in-law. Great for me.

the words "vegan" and "healthy" should never be used in a sentence ever.

ps: god i hope beno is traded before camp. i remember yrs ago when i first saw beno carry and turn over the ball so much and wished him gone back then but now i cant help to wonder why the spurs have kept him around.

Beno is still here because most teams simply don't want him. If there had been any decent offers for him in the past I think the FO would have jumped all over them. He's a cheap addition (talk about fitting into Holt's MO) and if the FO can't ship him out this year they will not ask him back. Too bad because he has a very good shot, sees the court well, excellent FT shooter and can pass very well but just can't play good D and is always in Pop's doghouse. He needs to go and get some PT with another team if he is going to ever stick in this league. Though having said that he will probably have a good year seeing how it's his last and most players seem to do well in contract years - amazing how that works out.

When did NBA players sign a contract stating their not allowed to have fun? They're still people, despite the millions.

But they still somehow manage to show up for practice and game-time ready to work, ready to play, and are in good shape. Just like if I decided to go out til' 6 the night before an early day at work, I could probably expect my ass to get canned unless I turn it in a little early.

It doesn't matter who else is going to clubs. This is only about Beno.

It matters that Beno - who has a reputation of coming to camp out of shape - is not only going to clubs, he's letting it be advertised that he's having TWO "welcome home" (was he at war?) parties in one week. You don't find that obnoxious?

Beno is a young guy who likes to party.

Nobody knows whether he is in shape or not.

For all we know, he went to Slovenia to visit and got to work out and stay in shape....highly unlikely, but nobody knows for sure.

Plus, it is early August and the guys are still on vacation. If he wants to party on his vacation....whatever.

Parker is out hurting his ankle, Gino is out building stadiums, Oberto is out in his farm in Argentina, Elson is out partying too (seen him), Bruce and Duncan are out having babies, Horry was out and about at the Playboy Mansion, Bonner spent the majority of time living like a rockstar, and Beno is now coming back and having two parties while vacation is still going on.......whatever.....

Parker - NBA Finals MVP
Manu - One of the greatest international players of all-time
Bruce - NBA All-Defensive Team
Duncan - One of the greatest players of all-time
Horry - Clutch player, productive in the playoffs

Thats not the point.

The point is he is free to do whatever he wants on his vacation time...thats what most people do....his obligations to the Spurs does not restrict him from throwing back to back parties on his vacation.

However, if he wants to mess it up for himself and not improve by not working on conditioning, ball handling, executing the offense and defensive schemes...so be it.

He won't be getting play time and he won't get his contract renewed.

The funny thing about all this, some people will go out and try to see him at Bliss and Posh now that they know he will be there. :rolleyes

And we are free as Spur fans to bag on him for his constant lack of desire to become a good basketball player.
If he had showed the kind of heart and desire that a much less talented guy like Jacque Vaughn showed I doubt any Spur fans would care how many back to back parties he threw

Beno is a highly talented basketball player. He has been for the last decade. The problem is he doesn't care about the game. We heard from the Beno backers that this was going to be the offseason that Beno decided to start caring about basketball, grow up and get in shape.

If he worked out one-tenth as much as he partied, he'd be one of the better backup point guards in the league.

Beno on August, 7th:

Now I will try to translate it for you:

First I will try to apologize to my fans (Slovenian not all of you 3 Americans) for not being in Euro 07 in Spain. I know my real fans will understand me, becouse I am psychialy (spelling?) realy broken down and I am still trying to come back.

Next year my contract with SA Spurs will end and I must be prepared for this season as well as I can be...

Main reason for not getting playing time past season was my mistake in the game against Dallas. In that game I played for 1 min. and 31 sec. and I played to soft on defense in one action and coach imidiatly replaced me with a player
who throwed his body all over the game court and ended under our bench infront of coachs´ legs. After the game coach said to me that that was exactly what he expected of me instead.

I can't believe that Beno say that :

First, This game was on November 24th. Beno was still Spurs backup PG at the start of February.

Second, I remember very well this game and Beno doesn't tell the whole story.
Beno has entered in the game at the start of the second quarter.
At the 11:45 mark, he let Johnson scoring a wide open layup. Pop take a 20sec timeout few second later to say to Beno to play some defense.
At the 10:43 mark, Beno let again Johnson scoring a wide open layup on the same kind of play.
After that, Pop pull Beno out of the game.

I'm not optimistic at all about Beno's future with Spurs and in the nba. Between partying, saying that he is mentally broken, downplaying his failure last year and not playing with Slovenia or Spurs SL team, it doesn't look good at all.

Thanks,

I left a comment, but most of the existing comments were already spot on.

Sad.Yo, you can't leave all of us hanging. What were the comments?

Keep going, Beno, we know you can do it!

A few blind apologists.

Quite a few people that obviously follow the NBA and a few who don't but are smart enough to understand that you don't get benched for the whole season because of a "small mistake".

Yo, you can't leave all of us hanging. What were the comments?Basically a repeat of my earlier post in this thread. Asked him to STFU and play basketball. I also said that he has the privilege to play in a team choke full of future basketball legends and he should take his cues from them and not MTV. Also stated my opinion about why he rode the bench the whole season and mentioned his two welcome home parties.

I'd love to see his response to the parties.

If you want to be the ultimate Beno optimist, there are three reasons to hold out hope.

1) He's in a contract year. Beno, while he doesn't really care about basketball, cares about living the NBA lifestyle. Perhaps he will use that as motivation to play well this year.

2) If he can get in shape, that could do wonders for his game. The last time he was in shape was when he was getting his first contract (summer of 2004). He partied his way out of shape by midseason that year, but the first half of the season he was very good for a rookie.

3) Point guards historically take a while to mature. We are spoiled in that Parker came out of the womb ready to play. That's rarely the case with point guards. Nash sucked his first handful of years in the league. It took players like Stockton and Payton a few years to figure it all out. The NBA has adjusted to Beno, now he has to make the next adjustment.

Beno is officially a fucktard

he went from my favourite player (had great hopes for him) to a player who i would just like to see disapear in third Macedonian league so i wouldnt have to hear about him anymore

sad shit

It just makes me sad.

I've always liked Beno, to me he's like the "Little Brother" of the team.

I had hope for him, I guess we all did. He certainly has talent, it's a shame and a waste if he can't get it together to salvage his career.

At this point I'd be happy if he could play well for another team, he obviously can't for the Spurs. But it's beginning to feel like he may throw it all away.

I know you're not saying Beno is on that level, but for him to make the leap after three downtrending years to adequate backup would be unprecedented. Not saying it can't happen, but I can't think of a comparison.

No one will be more disappointed than I am to see Beno throw away his unbelievable chance. He has had the opportunity to win 2 NBA championships at his early age when there are legends who never got to experience the joy of even one. It truly saddens me to watch it. He had the fortune of being drafted into the perfect situation- onto a top team with players from whom he could learn and develop, and he just has never quite gotten how blessed he is. The guy has amazing natural talent that he has not taken the personal responsibilty for developing.

I am hoping that a settling in his personal life will bring back what we saw in the first half of his rookie year, but my hopes for that are dwindling. All Beno has to do is put forth the effort and he could be one of the best back-up point guards in the whole league. As to the parties, Beno's friends have ties to clubs and they use it for promotion, and that is not a good situation for what Beno needs to be focusing on.

How could he be so worn out-- he hardly played. He should be dying to get onto a basketball court to prove what he can do. When he does get to play, he should be showing that he wants to be there. I just don't think he has any passion for the game- just a boatload of natural talent. A player does show how much he cares by how hard he works in practice and in the off-season. He can go out after a game and have a drink or two with teammates or friends- it is what he does the other 20 hours per day that matters.

Beno just does not seem to get it, and he has new excuses every year. I hoped a contract year and some time to think would get through to him, but the proof will be over the next couple of months. Does Beno want to play in the NBA?

Well, I might be even more disappointed, or at least just as much as you.

Let me explain a few things.

I am very proud of our athletes in general and basketball players in particular. We have somehow put in place one of the best basketball programs in the world. For a nation of barely 2 millions we have not only players in the NBA but in many top clubs in the European leagues. Such a program is the result of dedication and hard work of a lot of people who will never be justly rewarded for their efforts - financially or otherwise.

So to see the reputation of so many good people and athletes tarnished by an idiot of this proportions really pisses me off.

He does not get it. He does not understand life or the NBA. And judging by his public remarks he's not very smart. If somebody close to him is reading this please, please tell him to shut up and to hire a publicist his latest interview in the sport newspaper EKIPA is incredibly stupid and damaging - so if you know him help him by kicking him real hard in the ass - I hope it will waken him from whatever dreamworld he seems to live in.

I will post the article in a separate thread since it has nothing to do with the parties. But I warn you it's like a bad car accident - you know you should look away but just can't.
