After reading the article about A&M's jerky (which is indeed very good), I've got a craving for some beef jerky, but I don't want to drive to the Smokehouse in New Braunfels or Dziuk's in Castroville.
Any locals with some good places?

Check your HEB and look for some from a Company in Falls City called Pollocks. I have had their Sausage and it's the best i've found. I haven't tried their Jerky though.

Don't remember the name but I remember when I was a kid there was a place in Johnson City that had some great stuff. I think it was Weber's?
EDIT: It was Whittington's.

Dzuiks is really good. I forgot all about that place until you mentioned it, I guess it's been a long time since I've driven from SA to Del Rio.
I don't know anywhere in SA, but Robertson's in Salado (between Dallas and Austin) is good too.

Call Cosmic Cowboy. He makes his own jerky. I believe he sells it at the AT&T Center during the Spurs rodeo road trip as well.

It's drinking gas out of my truck.
I've had Buccee's before... very good. I try to stop there every time I go to Houston.

I would highly recommend Whittington's. It's tough, but damn good. They have added a bunch of new varieties over the last decade. You should be able to find it at Central Market in SA. Otherwise, it's a nice hour's drive up 281 (on your left as you are entering JC). They have a place in Fredericksburg too. Of course, you can order it on the internets.
I haven't been, but you might want to try Penshorn's in Marion.

Prasek's is the best. My grandparents farm is walking distance away from it so we used to go there all the time years ago when it was just a two-pump gas station for the locals.
