Fortifying the roster
Cap-strapped Celtics sign vets Pollard, House
BOSTON (AP) -- The Boston Celtics started filling in their roster around their three All Stars on Thursday, signing center Scot Pollard and guard Eddie House.
The two join Kevin Garnett, Ray Allen and Paul Pierce as the Celtics try to end their 21-year championship drought.
Pollard and House ate lunch with coach Doc Rivers before meeting the media Thursday afternoon.
"Getting Kevin Garnett has been kind of a big deal, and now that us two are here, you really have a chance," joked Pollard, who appeared in 24 games with Cleveland last season, averaging 1 point and 1.3 rebounds per game. "I'm excited to be the cornerstone of this team."
Pollard was drafted by the Detroit Pistons with the 19th overall pick in 1997. The 6-foot-11, 273-pound has career averages of 4.5 points and 4.8 rebounds per game
House played for the New Jersey Nets last season and averaged 8.4 points per game. He shot close to 43 percent from three-point range last season.
