If Spurs don't sign a SF/PF this summer, I won't be very optimistic about Spurs next year.

A SF/PF is by far Spurs' biggest need.

Spurs could have a better backup PG but Vaughn is solid and is signed for two more years.
Spurs could have a successor for Bowen, but Bowen is far from done and Marcus Williams, even if it's unlikely, could turn into a good player.
Spurs could have better bigmen but they have signed two good roles players (Bonner and Oberto) for three years. Spurs have too a very solid player with Splitter waiting in Europe.

If Spurs don't make a roster move, Elson will be the key for a repeat. Without a good Elson, Spurs will have a lot of troubles to beat Dallas. Elson was very average last season, Spurs can't really hope that he will be good this season.

Spurs need to sign or trade for a SF/PF. Even an average player like Jumaine Jones could really help them next year.

I want them to sign Udoka, but if they sign Jumaine Jones or even stand pat, I'd be okay with it. And Elson should definitely have a better year having known the system for a year already.

Why is Roxsfan orgasming over getting Scola? Does he/she think he's the second coming of Akeem Olajuwon?

Would it be crazy to have Sankidize be a main backup at the 3?

To all you that responded to me: Seems I hit a sore spot. You Got damned right I am pumped about Scola. Fuck Yeah. The OP,other fans and the Spurs are calling for and needing a 3/4 and they just gave him to us along with a backup center.

Scola>Bonner,Oberto and Elson

We'll see about that. But anything is better than the walking corpse of Juwan Howard at the 4 for the Rockets.

:wakeup Houston did pull off a very smart trade landing Scola. A trio of Yao, Tmac & Scola would be really sick. However Houston's signing of Steve Francis might prove to be a distraction to Houston's version of their Big 3 as Steve is a well known locker room & oncourt cancer.

Scola is not starter material. And like we need a SF, HOU needs a 4 that can rebound and defend. Neither of which Scola is much of.

Agreed. There aren't enough basketballs to go around with Bonzi, TMac, Yao, Scola and Steve all in uniform. Not to mention the turnovers he will total. They may be antithesis of disciplined teams like Utah and SA.

I don't see the Spurs adding a Long Three this summer who can play both forward spots. At best, I can imagine that they sign Udoka. But even that is looking less and less likely.

The Warriors showed last year that to beat the Mavs, you need some Long Threes to hound Dirk. Why the Spurs haven't realized that and acted upon it is beyond me. The Spurs used to always sign players to prepare themselves for other star players such as Kobe (Bowen) and Shaq (Willis, Massenburg ... even Bateer). They should act accordingly and sign a Long Three to not only give Dirk problems but also better matchup against teams like the Suns and the Bulls.

For some reason the Spurs front office needs to watch the team lose in the playoffs to start the adjusting. It was obvious after the '05 playoffs that the Spurs needed to get smaller and swifter at center ... but it wasn't until after Dallas knocked them out that they adjusted.

Posey at this point would be nice. I'd even settle for JJones. But since it doesn't even look like the Spurs recognize the need for a Long Three, I'm at least hoping for Udoka.

Steve has been humbled since he left Houston. He will be more of a team player, if not he gets benched; if that does not take care of it, he gets traded or released, its not like we lose anything b/c what he gives us is a bonus and his salary is next to nothing(he is major rich, even prior to latest buyout). The bottom line, Rudy T knew how to manage Steve and JVG clashed with him, like JVG clashed with Bonzi and Kirk Snyder. Adelman will figure a way to manage this talent, but there will be an adjustment period to learn his complex offense. Wow, such a problem to have depth....Yao and Tmac can coast the first half, warm up post-all star game and gun it into the playoffs like SA.

BTW, you guys saw what bonzi did in the playoffs against SA and JVG could not utilize it, wtf
He also barely used Kirk's athleticism :pctoss

They adjusted two games into the series, which is what killed them. If they'd done it two months earlier or four weeks later they would have been fine.
