Oklahoma State will open the 2008 football season with an intersectional game against Washington State, with a return trip to Stillwater in 2010.

While OSU officials have not confirmed all the details, the Cowboys and Cougars will meet at Qwest Field in Seattle, home of the National Football League's Seattle Seahawks. Washington State, located in Pullman, Wash., has played a home game annually in Seattle for the past five years.

The date of the game is believed to be Aug. 28 -- a Thursday night -- and will be televised by ESPN. The deal was helped along by the network and was the second such deal OSU has been a part of recently.

In November of last year, ESPN brokered a deal with the University of Georgia to be their Saturday season opener on September 1st. In the 2009 opener, in the first game played at the completely renovated Boone Pickens Stadium in Stillwater, Georgia will visit the Cowboys and it will also be the nationwide ESPN Saturday game.

The recent trend in scheduling by Oklahoma State Head Coach Mike Gundy is a marked difference from the way former OSU and current LSU Head Coach Les Miles would schedule out of conference games. Coach Miles believed it was important to schedule as many built-in September wins as possible to assure becoming bowl eligible.

That no longer will be the case under Coach Gundy.

"We feel like our team has to play well on the road against quality opponents," Said Gundy. "We're in, arguably, the most difficult division (Big 12 South) in all of college football. We're always going to have to win on the road against quality opponents. That's why we're taking on this challenge of Georgia and other quality opponents from here on out.”

In May, OSU and the University of Tulsa agreed on a three-game football contract, renewing the in-state rivalry. The Golden Hurricane plays at Stillwater in 2010 and 2012, while the Cowboys visit Skelly Stadium in 2011.

OSU associate athletic director Dave Martin, who oversees football scheduling, also has secured nonconference meetings with Arizona (2011 and 2012); Purdue (2013 and 2016); North Carolina State (2014 and 2015); Air Force (2015 and 2016); and Clemson (2017 and 2018).
