So i just started listening to the new Talib Kweli album...and i was wondering what everyone's fav hiphop album is...from any era...
i think today's hiphop is horrible, i think it lost a lot of what it started about and is now just sensationalized BS that the corporate engine is spititng out...but anyway...
favorite album..
Mos Def -- Blackstar

Of all time? "Raising Hell" by RUN DMC would have to get the nod just because it was the album that really introduced me to hip hop.
I've had several "favorites" since then, however. And, since they've been showing commercials for the new album, I've been listening to Kweli's "Quality" a lot lately, which is just outstanding.

1. Can't Knock the Hustle - Wack beat and the girl singing sounds horrible. I don't like his on-beat, off-beat delivery in this either: Masta Ace could pull it off, but Jay doesn't have his lyrical skills.
2. Politics is Usual - Pretty good flow that goes very well with the beat. Very solid song.
3. Brooklyn's Finest - I don't like the way both Jay's and BIG's verses are so short before the other starts rapping. Pretty average song IMO.
4. Dead Presidents II - I liked it better the first time as Dead Presidents, with the exact same beat and better lyrics.
5. Feelin' It - Not feelin' it. The girl singing sounds like she's feelin like a nap, and Jay's lyrics aren't anything special in this.
6. D'evils - Classic. One of the greatest songs in the history of hip hop. Great beat, great Snoop sample, and top-notch lyrics.
7. 22 Two's - I forgot this song. I like Jay's energy and delivery. Pretty good song.
8. Can I Live - so so. A bit slow.
9. Ain't No Nigga - One of the worst songs ever put on wax. I hate everything about this song, except the beat (which sounded a lot better when Cold Crush was rapping over it).
10. Friend or Foe - Don't like it for the same reason I don't like Can't Knock the Hustle. Jay sounds really bad going off-beat.
11. Coming of Age - Great beat, good energy from Jay in the first verse. Would sound much better without the typical lame chorus and as a solo.
12. Cashmere Thoughts - Great beat, great lyrics, great delivery.
13. Bring it On - Good beat, good song... I like the other guy's delievery way better than Jay's on this song.
14. Regrets - I like the beat and the lyrics are good. Jay's delivery matches the beat well. Solid song.
Great - 2
Good - 4
Average - 3
Crap - 5
Maybe I was too hard on it; overall, it's a solid album, but there's no way this deserves to mentioned with classics like Paid in Full, Illmatic, Critical Beatdown, It Takes a Nation of Millions, Straight Outta Compton, Enter the 36 Chambers, Power, Death Ceritificate, Southernplayalisticcadillacmuzik, Ready to Die, Me Against the World, Three Feet High and Rising, Eazy Duz It, Chronic, Strictly Business, etc.

typical bullshit hip-hop elitist attitude. the most commerically successful albums are ultimately weaker than the less commercially successful just to sound cool.
Speakerboxx and Love Below were great albums. And Stankonia was their masterpiece, but no assholes here will admit it because "Ms. Jackson" and "So Fresh, So Clean" got alot of radio play.

i didn't care much for stankonia, it's got too much sprawl, and a couple of tracks i really don't like - ms jackson is one, xplosion is another - i hate the chorus. atliens is their best, followed very closely by southernplayalistic. not a bad album by any means, it's just not as focused as the first three. you could say the same about speakerboxx/love below too - the tracks they are both on are generally the best. i basically like the first three best because when the goodie mob and outkast got together on a track, it was always good.
outside of those, mecca and the soul brother is top notch, and i really like the liks' first three as well, but can't choose between the first and the second. i also really like madvillian, and you don't ever hear anyone talking about soundpieces by the loot pack, but it's damn good.
