Ian Mahinmi
Birthdate: 11/5/86
NBA Position: Power Forward
Ht: 6-10
Wt: 230

Tiago Splitter
Birthdate: 1/1/85
NBA Position: Power Forward
Ht: 6-11
Wt: 236

Ian is an athletic freak who can rebound and defend. the problem is he lacks and offensive game. Tiago Splitter is an offensive player who can shoot from anywhere on the court. the problem is he lacks in the defense department.

its basically Defense VS Offense.

Ian just signed, but if there is only one roster spot next year and if you could choose one of these guys to join the team next year, who would it be and why?

Splitter is in fact the exact opposite of that. :spin

How does somebody completely make up Splitter as a sharpshooter who doesn't play defense?

Tiago and Ian are the Spurs way of going young, just enough.

So then why spend the rest of your loser life craving attention on another teams message board that you don't like?

luckily both Spurs big men prospects for the future are fast, mobile bigs. With the way the league has been trending that may give the Spurs a possibly brighter future with them next to Duncan than the slower, heavier and fatter young bigs like Jackie Butler.

as of now i would choose splitter, mahinmi have the potential but is still too raw and unexperienced. Splitter is much more highly regarded and experienced.

Splitter hasn't gotten a whole lot better over the last 5 years. He needs to break out of his funk and develop some more before you can throw the franchise label around. Seriously.

I can't get why people are excited about Ian... Yup he's physical but my dog has more bb IQ than him. He posseses feet instead of hands and seems not to know the road to the gym. Sure he's young and stuff but he wouldn't get any PT in Pau despite the poor level of the team.
If he becomes one day as good as Tiago is, it will be a real miracle and you all should just start praying. And yup i'm french.

Maybe something is lost in translation, but your saying he doesn't like to work on his game?

Correct?

If so, that may have been true over there, but they supposedly love his work ethic over here. Maybe he works harder here cause hes always wanted to be in the NBA.

I dunno..

Splitter has MUCH more in the skills department and Ian has more in the athleticism department...though Splitter can run the floor.

As of now, I give the edge to Splitter, because there's less projection to him becoming a solid role player than Mahinmi.

Honestly though, I don't know why this is an issue. Robert Horry's contract is up after next year as well as Francisco Elson's. Maybe one is brought back, but I doubt both are. When the Spurs brought Elson in, it was to be a stop-gap until the young guys were brought on board.

Bottom Line: Provided that Mahinmi and Splitter show decent development, I think both will be on this team next year.

My goodness! 4 rings and the sages still think they are wiser than the FO. They also make mistakes because you can't see into a players heart. James White!!!!!!!!!! Butler!!!!!!!!Scola!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Beno!
The facts are you can't teach the athleticism that Ian has. You develop it. That's why he's with us---to develop in the NBA style. By 22 maybe a 7', 240 lb beast? David's offensive skills came later in his career also. Tiago is obviously talented and almost 7'. He's knows how to play team ball. Spur's ball!
Both will be on the roster in 2008-20009 at one third the price of a Jermaine O'Neill or Richard Jefferson etc. The FO gets it wrong half of the time but it beats the rest of the leagues 20% average. Imagine if the Celtics crashing with 3 guys making 55 mill!

Ian is there to become the athletic defensive presence defending guy from Amare to Dirk while being the tough presence to deal with guys simply looking to hack at TD and Tony.

Splitter is there to become a TD clone, able to take TD's role when he is resting without disturbing team makeup and balance.

Now this is what I think the FO is hoping, if one of two comes good, they are way ahead of the game.
