Dumb move. $70 million over 5 years is not going to get it done with Beltran. I think you have to start with at least a 7 year deal for around $100 million. Even that would be low.

Beltran will probably command a Giambi-like salary, but I wouldn't want the Astros to tie that much money up on one player... no matter how great.

Here's a link that states that he'll probably end up signing for 7 years and $105 million.

From an article...

One team that inquired about Beltran reported it was told it wouldn't even be considered a "serious" bidder unless it was willing to begin the conversation with a 10-year, $200-million synonym for "hello."

Holy crap. This is going to take all but one team out of the running, if that's what they're pushing for.

I don't think even the Yankees will offer that if they know no one else will... CIA Boss.

The Yankees will get him, but he won't get 10/200.

Honestly, I think we've seen the one and only 200 million dollar player for a while.

tlong, it looks like your Mariners are really going to get some good signees.

Seattle has the 3rd highest revenue in the Majors, so they have the means to be players in the free agent market.

Supposedly they've locked up Sexson.

Richie Sexson, and gonna go after Adrien Beltre.

That would be some good added POP.

IF, Beltre doesnt pull an Erick Dampier, and Sexson stays healthy.
