Anyone here work from home part or full-time. The wife wants to earn some extra money and go back to work but I'm not loving the idea of other people looking after my son in a daycare. She's open to any work from home type jobs and really she's only wanting to make an extra 100-150 a week. Nothing I can find that allows you to work from home seems legit at all. Anyone know of anything that would work?

If she can do phone work, this place is legit:

www.alpineaccess.com

They pay $9 an hour, I think, and you can't have noisy dogs or kids in the background, so that may not work for her.

What about in-home daycare? I would never do it, but lots of women do. Too much liability for me!

No dogs and we might be able to find a way around the noisy kid part. Thanks for the link.

If she can get training as a transcriptionist, she could work from home. I believe SoniaTX mentioned she did that in the occupation thread.

I have a friend in Colorado who had a parttime job working for them and loved it.

Anyone know of a telecommuting service that offers jobs outside the US? I've found a few that say Global US... don't exactly know what that means but I'm not entirely sure its global at all. For the kind of pay Alpineaccess offers and the minimum amount of hours per week its a kick ass part time job here. In Argentina a 9 dollar/hour part time job goes a long way.

You should talk to Kori. I know she says she works from home. Maybe she may have something that your wife could do. Maybe??

It's actually pretty inexpensive to do it through accd. I think St. Philips College is the one who offers most of the medical options. It just takes more time than money.

It just takes more time than money.Well I live in Corpus not SA but its an interesting option. Problem being though, is that the idea is to make a little extra cash while not having to put my son under someones care, schooling would just make it even more difficult. Thanks for your input guys/gals, anyone else got anything to suggest?

Does she like to write?

She can probably get a writing/blogging job making a couple hundred extra dollars a month easily. I don't know if she'll make $600 a month but she can make $300-400.

I am trying to finish a job right but I'll private message you tomorrow with info on that, if she'd be interested.

Hit me up with as much information as you can. 400 a month would be perfect. Hell I'd be interested with as much time as I spend online during the day.

I have worked from home for almost 2 years now. Medical billing. We were hiring up until recently but you still might want to check it out. I *think* we'll be hiring again soon, not too sure.

I think the posting should say "In Home Data Entry" or something like that.

What's the job description on that? It's kind of vauge, I checked the site, but it wasn't detailed enough. This is a part time thing that really interests me. Anybody know anything detailed about it? Is it like you have a section of the day where you wait to answer phone calls or something like that?

Also, Kori could you PM me the same info? That sounds like something I would like to do as well. I need extra cash my day job isn't enough.

It's customer service and you have to be available at a certain time each day to answer calls via your computer. I think it may be catalog stuff. I will
e-mail my friend tomorrow and ask her for more details. I know her hours were right after the kids went to school and ended around lunchtime.

From the FAQ section of the website:

Q: What kind of work would I be doing?

A: You will be answering telephone calls from the customers of our clients. Typically, those customers are calling to place orders for our clients’ products or services, ask questions about those products or services, or to ask questions about orders they have already placed.

Hi,

Since I received over 20 messages saying "Hey, I want info on that writing job." I will just post the information here. First off, I wasn't talking about a specific job.

But here's how you can go about finding freelance writing/blogging jobs. Some might be a one time only project, others might be writing blog entries every day, while others might be submitting article to magazines and e-zines.

So here's my advice ...

Read this list of jobs that is updated daily. You can find everything from ongoing blogging jobs to magazine writing to writing articles for websites. I have actually gotten a lot of jobs from this list:

http://dailyjoblist.telecommuting-writing-jobs.com/

Read Deb Ng's blog at Writer's Row where you can also find writing/blogging jobs:

http://www.writersrow.com/deborahng/

Apply to write a blog as part of a blog network. Here are some popular blog networks. Most of these pay a small monthly amount plus bonuses based on page views:

http://b5media.com/ (They are switching servers today, so the site might be down)
http://www.weblogsinc.com/
http://creative-weblogging.com/
http://knowmoremedia.com/

Sign up for they newsletter from About Freelance Writing. They send out a list on Monday, Wednesday, Friday with 50+ freelance writing/blogging jobs:
http://www.aboutfreelancewriting.com/

Bump if y'all are still interested in work at home stuff...

I was looking at jobs this weekend and found that UnitedHealth Group is hiring for Claims Professionals at the moment. It doesn't say Work at home per say, but work at home potential. Benfits and the whole shebang.

Job Fair Today and tomorrow from 11am to 7pm at their location at 5959 Northwest Parkway (across the street from the De Zavala Wal-Mart ).

We looked into the Alpine place mentioned here and for some reason they aren't available in Corpus.

We found a few nickle and dime places but we're still looking.

This is who my wife works for, and yes their whole gig here in SA is work from home now.

They set you up with a pc, internet, and phone line to your house.

I work from home but it's not like it was a plan ... merely that I work for a company where all the people I work with are at other locations and so there's no benefit to me sitting in an office all day consuming space, electricity, etc. All of the work I do is phone/net based and so where I sit isn't terribly important. And I save enough in gas/frustration driving that I don't mind paying for internet (which I would have anyway) and phone (most of which is toll-free anyway).

The drawback is that without people eyeballing you it's sometimes hard to get credit for the work you do ... all you are is a disembodied voice or that guy who sends a bunch of email. So you have to work harder to be visible in other ways.

I just got from the job fair and just for a warning to anyone thinking about going...just apply online and save yourself the trip. It was only like 2 minutes for me to get there but it would have been easier to sit in my pajamas and fill out another online application that I've become so accustomed to filling out. You do have to go in for some assessment, though.

But to answer your question...they said base $24,000 with no waiting period for benefits. You get enrolled 1st of the month. That was the best part I thought.

My wife works as a translator from home. Sets her own hours. If you are bi-lingual, it's fantastic. I'm so jealous of her. She works while in bed on the phone. It's crazy. I hate my own job like no one's business...when I come home and she's lounging around on the phone, watching the tube etc...I'm just like F me man.

But to be fair, we have two kids and homeschool, so it's not like she doesn't work mind you, but her job is just about perfect.

if you wouldn't mind, can you give me some specifics on that type of job?

My wife just finished getting certified to teach Spanish in December, and even after the job fairs with the school districts, still hasn't heard a peep...
