Splitter calls for European coach

SAO PAULO (National Team) - Brazil center Tiago Splitter has urged the country's basketball authorities to appoint a European coach to take the team forward in the aftermath of their failure to qualify directly for the Olympic Games in Beijing.

Aluisio Ferreira's team finished fourth at the FIBA Americas Championship in Las Vegas behind the United States and Argentina, both of whom booked their tickets to next year's event in China.

During the competition, Ferreira came under heavy criticism from several quarters, who accused him of poor management.

On Tuesday, small forward Marcus de Souza added his voice to the long list of critics and Splitter believes it is time for Ferreira to go.

"I think the national team needs a new lift," Splitter said. "It's no secret that a European boss would be welcomed to help us.

"Now that it's all over, the CBB (the Brazilian Basketball Confederation) should analyse what the best future of our basketball team is."

Brazil still have a chance to qualify for the Olympics via another tournament to be played next year.

More tham a European Coach, the Brazilian PLAYERS should leave their egos behind when playing for their NT.and them they´ll be fine.
they were more concerned on the minutes and shots others were taking tham sharing the ball and playing as a team.

I think also that they need tactical discipline.

They are very talented but they overemphasize 3 pt. shooting.-

Some here in Argentina say to a team that live and die by the 3 " Jugar a la Brasilera" (Brazilian play )

when a player thinks of himself that he´s the shit, coze he plays in the NBA,no domestic coach will be able to tell him what to do and how to do it.
when there´s no respect to what the coah says, nothing will come to a good end.
being more humble will take them farther.

Brazil would be scary under the mandate of an European coach... they'd get way better...

brazil needs a coach that will call plays and not just give the ball to one player and stand around

that is what the coach wants him to do
give it to the point guard and let other players watch him :rolleyes

Couldn't agree more.

Even still, it is the coach's fault for allowing that type of selfish play to undermine the team.

Sorry, but our coach doesnt have the respect from nobody. It´d be a player issue if only them thought it. Actually, these players should be blamed for not asked for a better coach before.

It´s not like Barbosa is a selfish player. The brazilian NT simply doesnt have any plan about what the players should do.

Lula Ferreira is the worst coach who ever comanded our team. Its simply like that.

I hope he´s finally gone.

^Only if you hate our basketball.

He´s like Pelé. A hell of player, but should keep his mouth closed. Simple like that.
