My favorite TV show of all time is MASH.

Me and the g/f (who also loves MASH) were discussing last night, if they were to remake the MASH series, who would play which part?

Here are my first round of guesses:

Col. Potter: Christopher Walken
Radar: Tobey McGuire
Klinger: George Lopez
Hawkeye: Steve Carell (The office)
BJ: Jason Lee (My name is Earl) maybe Adam Sandler
Frank: Damon Wayons
Margaret: Chloë Sevigny (Big love)
Father Mulcahey: David Shwimmer (Friends)

Please feel free to upgrade the list.

i was going with the later series after they left ( in season 3)

if I had to cast a Henry, it would be a Ryan Stiles kinda guy.

Trapper John - Owen Wilson (if he's still alive)

I think Kim Cattrall would make a great Margaret Houlihan.

When I first saw this thread, I thought someone was planning a remake of the film.

Probably not out of the question. I don't get why film makers keep doing these shitty remakes.

I always loved the Halloween movies (well most of them) and saw that a remake was coming out. Halloween is one of those movies that should've just been labled untouchable. MASH is the same way.

Does anyone do anything original anymore?

I agree. Leave it to Hollywood though to fuck that up eventually.

When I first saw this thread, I thought someone was planning a remake of the film.Me, too. That would have pissed me off.

Actually the TV show had very little to do with the movie. I like them both, but the only commonalities were the names of the characters.

Oh, and Gary Burghoff, of course.

I only ever saw the show in syndication when I was a kid, but never really got into it. The movie, however, is fucking genius.

The TV show was groundbreaking in many ways that seem dated now. I think it was the first sitcom to have multiple arcs in each episode. It was the first sitcom where death was a recurrent theme. It was one of the first TV shows with big ensemble casts where the "star" might not have such a big part in several episodes. But if you weren't around for the first-run episodes, I could see why it wouldn't seem like such a big deal.

Trivia on the movie: Nowhere in it is the word "Korea" mentioned. Altman intended it to be an anti-Vietnam movie, but the studio made him put in the crawler at the very beginning that specified Korea.

if they remake MASH then absolutely nothing is sacred in Hollywood. They might as well make a movie where Jesus gets the shit beaten out of him for 2 hours.

the g/f asked who i would put in as Col Flagg .. the Intellegence Officer.

perhaps a Matt LeBlanc type... he's weird enough.

too bad there's no room for David Hassellhoff in there somewhere.
