I've been to Sam's Like when I was in 6th grade back in 93 and haven't been since. What is the difference the two? Who is cheaper or who has more stuff to choose from?

We always used Sam's because that was all there was were we used to live, so when we moved here we just kept it up. I figure they're basically alike.

i prefer sam's.
I prefer Costco's. Their frozen food and deli selection is much, much better than Sam's. Other than that it's about the same.

I've never heard of Sam's. Costco is great.
It's a Wal-Mart sponsored warehouse bulk store.

I like Costco heads and shoulders above Sam's. The meat and produce is fresher. I was just at Sam's with my mom yesterday and I swear the pork looked at least a week old, some were green on the edges.
I also hate the book selection at Sam's. I don't go there for books generally speaking but half the books are religious and 1/2 of the other half are books on tape. They won't sell anything they think is 'questionable" and I guess I don't like the idea of the Waltons deciding what I should and shouldn't read, so I just don't go there, unless it's with my mom (her husband works for Wal-Mart so she only goes to Sam's since she gets a free membership). I feel the same about Wal-Mart and how they only sell "clean" versions of music and stuff. It's just kinda insulting to me, personally.

They are direct competitors with each other... That being said, the best you can hope for is prices being lowered to attract customers.
I personally have a Costco membership....and it's okay.

I use Sams for work supplies cleaning supplies and what not.
Costco stinks at stuff like that.
Costco is where I would go though for an LCD tv, food, and books, and DVD or Video games.
They are both equal, but if I didnt own a business I would prob visit Costco more.
Also if you dont have a Discover, Mastercard, or Sams Credit Card, or a shit load of cash, you can't buy anything at Sams.

I don't like either place myself. But if I ever needed an industrial-sized can of tuna and 40 pounds of potatoes, I guess I'd use Costco. They seem cleaner and fresher somehow, but to be fair, it's been years since I've been in Sam's, and have only been to Costco twice in the last year. We weren't food shopping, though--it was for electronics. They ended up being too pricey, so we bought our plasma at Bennie's. (And Bennie's will deal with you.)

I'm a member of both. Like TParks said, Sams is a little better for industrial type supplies, but Costco is MUCH better in clothes, electronics, and food. They have a very good meat market and produce section. Plus, all the generic "Kirkland" brand products I have tried have been top notch. Better than "Sams Choice" IMO.

agreed
theres some stuff of Kirkland Signature that I buy, that I prefer to brand names.
All my work jeans and shorts are Kirkland signature. I also get some great deals on Polo and Tommy Hilfiger stuff at the ostco.

Give me a freakin' break. "kind of insulting to me, personally" Get over it. I've never heard someone say, "Hey I was offended by Walmart and Sams the other day" So what, the Waltons don't reserve the right to sell what they want and don't want. What the fuck, this is America............."Hey Im offended Walmart doesn't sell Charmin toilet paper, I don't like the Waltons deciding what I should and should not wipe my ass with, Im insulted :madrun ".....Sounds pretty stupid.

Sam's has traditionally catered more towards small businesses in regards to their product mix. Costco carries more higher end products and typically opens stores in the more affluent areas of a city.

Costco. Their stores are nicer and seem cleaner. As some stated, they seem more consumer oriented. To me, the kicker is the two "passport of savings" books they send out for summer and winter, and all of the intermediate coupon books throughout the year. Those always cover my membership X 4 or 5, or even higher.
I was just looking through my costco coupon book the other day. They do have a much nicer selection of clothes. I have taken food back to Sams because it ended up being too nasty to eat!!
