Oden has knee pain, will undergo exploratory surgery

Trail Blazers rookie center Greg Oden is expected to undergo exploratory arthroscopic knee surgery on Thursday after enduring pain in his right knee.

Blazers officials would not comment on the situation beyond a four-sentence news release issued Monday evening that said Oden underwent an magnetic resonance imaging last week, revealing that the 7-foot center may have some "cartilage problems" in the knee.

Oden, who was selected No. 1 in June's NBA draft, had been taking part in voluntary workouts in Portland with other NBA players in preparation for the season, which starts in October. It is unknown exactly how Oden hurt his knee.

A timetable for Oden's return will be set following the arthroscopic surgery.

Trail Blazers team physician Dr. Don Roberts is expected to perform the surgery at Southwest Washington Medical Center in Vancouver, Wash.

I don't know, if he has torn cartiledge it would be very similar to the injury that is keeping Terry Glenn out for the season for the Dallas Cowboys. Also, as a 7 ft. guy his knees take on a lot more stress than a 5'11'' guy like Glenn. The kid's young so he should be back but it might not be for a while.

WTF? There's a difference between being horrid (Kwame, Darko), and being injury prone. Don't say he's going to suck then act like you knew wtf your were talking about when he gets injured.

Sucks for him and the Blazers. I hope it's not serious.

But I agree with the people that Durant is the real #1 pick.

:lol@Poland - making fun of Oden without making fun of the injury :tu
