I don't know how it doesn't tarnish their legacy. The most compelling thing to me is that Goodell sent a warning to teams because of the Patriots, and the Pats still cheated on the very first game of the 2007 season. The Pats must really believe that this cheating scheme is absolutely crucial to their success if they couldn't stop doing it for even one game after the warning.

If videotaping signals wasnt a significant advantage to the Pats then you'd think they would be able to stop doing it after Goodell made it clear that it wouldn't be tolerated.

Remember in 03 and 04 when the Pats just kept winning, and everyone was sort of in awe about it because the Pats didn't have that many playmakers on either defense or on offense? They never had huge blowout games but kept winning close games and everyone just figured that Belichick was a genius, and thats why they kept winning. They went 14-2 two years in a row and won the Super Bowl those years.

Kinda makes ya wonder what other shady tactics they've used in the past doesn't it?

And you call yourself a Cowboys fan? :rolleyes :rolleyes Unless you are just doing this to talk shit to the Chargers. :downspin: Nevermind saw in the other thread that you really are a Pats fan. Howl ong have you been a Pats fan? Were you ever a fan of them during the Bledsoe era? Remember the game against the Bills in 1998 when Bledsoe threw a td pass to Ben Coates as time expired? The play before that, time had expired but a pass interference pentaly was called. Were you a fan during that time. If so then I have no beef with you. But if you were a fan when Brady started playing, you are a flat out front runner.

Or the Pats are the Spurs of the NFL. Teams will throw that asterick talk around. They did it for the Spurs each title run and now the Pats are getting the smack talk thrown at them.

Dont even start talking about a 4th title yet. First you have to get through the team you havent beaten in 2 1/2 years. You know that team dont you? The colts ring a bell? I mean they are only the defending champs who have the best qb in the league and has figured out that son of a bitch Billicheck. Pats have to get through a team they no longer own if they even want to start talking superbowl.

Oh wait, we cant forget the Broncos either. Now that is a team who has bitchslapped the living fuck out of tom brady. Bradys only win against the Broncos was against Danny Kenel (Plummer was hurt) and you needed a last second td to just eek by. Broncos will get better as the weeks go on. They have upgraded their pass rushers and secondary, their running game and their qb. Oh yeah they also need to worry about the Chargers as well. Pats won that game thanks to the Chargers mistakes which easily could have been prevented. Pats will need the Chargers to fuck up that much again if they want to beat them.

If there is ever any evidence of the Spurs cheating and being warned by the league, then reprimanded by the league? No. I don't even know how they would do that in basketball since you can tell immediately if a team is in man or zone. The Pats used to be considered the Spurs of the NFL, but now they're just the team who videos defensive signals and cheats to win. I like the Pats, but video taping signals is weak. There's no reason to do it unless you really feel you can't win without knowing your opponents plays. In football that is a huge advantage as you know every blitz or formation that's coming before the snap. You know exactly what play to call or audible to in order to get in the empty spaces and set up protection.

THE *TUCK* RULE
explain to me exactly how the Patriots cheated? That was a REFEREE that made that call....what the fuck are the Patriots supposed to do, say "uhhh excuse me, but we're gonna go ahead and forfeit this because it's a questionable call..."

Plus, anybody who knows the exact language of that rule knows that the rule was enforced properly.

It's kind of like the "don't leave the bench" rule in the NBA.....by the letter of the law, the NBA enforced it properly against Amare/Diaw. The Spurs certainly didn't make a stink about the "spirit of the rule" being more important than the letter of the law, and there is no fucking reason the Patriots should either.

I'm a huge Cowboy fan, but I also like the Pats. I think there are still the Spurs of the NFL(in a good way). Was it cool what the Pats did? No! I'm sure "every team" video tapes their opponents signals or use some other means to gain an advantage. Should there be an asterick next to their SB's? NO! They won with defense, team work, and a great QB. Take the Spurs for example, the years they've won the title. Did they have the best "players" in the league? Nope! They had one of the best players in Tim Duncan, but player for player they don't have the best. They win with good defense, team work, and having one of the best coaches in Greg Popovich. Again, good old fashion ball! Every team tries to cheat or steal the other teams signal or else the coaches wouldn't cover their mouths when calling plays!

Whisky Dog

Uh, No. Every team doesn't video tape the opponents bench, that's why this is so, so bad. Every team may try to look for signals, but they don't assign a guy to zoom in and video tape the signals to then decifer them and know exactly what they mean. There may be other teams that have done it, but the Patriots are the ones who got caught and should be punished and have their titles questioned due to the cheating. If Bonds has his titles questioned due to evidence of cheating then the Patriots should as well.

Vincent Jackson will have his chance to shine as this year's #1. Parker is injured. Craig Davis can't be expected to dominate in year one as a rookie receiver. For one, with such a controversial practice there are always going to be people who would blow the whistle and not go along if everyone knew about it. Secondly, other teams had been complaining about the Pats for a while now and the complaints were enough for the commish to warn every team before the season. If every team was doing this then nobody would have been complaining or blowing the whistle because they would have been just as dirty. Obviously there were teams that were not doing this, and by looking at the evidence and the fact that this is just now coming out I would guess that the majority of the league doesn't do this. Sometimes you have to use some deductive reasoning to figure things out instead of just looking at everything on the surface.

Patriots suck.

Who the fuck said I liked the Patriots? And if I did, saying "Patriots suck" would qualify as the lamest insult I could think of.

Here's several articles saying the Chargers receivers need improvement:

"It has all the pieces in place for another Super Bowl run except for a No.1 WR."

http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=2800837

"Three Burning Questions

Do the Chargers have enough offensive firepower at WR to get over the hump this season?
One of the biggest reasons San Diego lost to New England in the playoffs was marginal play at wide receiver. Eric Parker has been a starter, but he should be a No. 3 at best. Vincent Jackson improved last season, but he needs to be more consistent. The wild card will be rookie Craig Davis. Even though young receivers take some time to develop, the Chargers need him to make solid contributions if this offense is going to take that final step."

http://insider.espn.go.com/nfl/trainingcamp07/insider/news/story?id=2931741

Also ESPN's scouting staff has their highest wide out ranked 46th in the league among wide receivers. And this is not for fantasy football, it's a ranking if how good each player is. I could cut and paste the whole thing if you need me to.

Any list, even from Scouts, Inc., that has Rod Smith and Jericho Cotchery over Roy Williams is bunk.

One of the biggest reasons San Diego lost to New England in the playoffs was marginal play at wide receiver. Not even close to a reason.
1. headbutt after a stop on 3rd down, auto 1st down
2. fumbled ball on routine punt return catch
3. ball fumbled after would be game ending interception.

It will be fun to watch this game on Sunday. I expect to see this same matchup in the playoffs.

LOL. Chargers will never win a ring so that Trophey Case will be empty for quite some time.

Dude, I'll admit the list has some flaws, but the point is their wide outs are suspect at best, and this dude is such a homer he refuses to admit it. He's like the Spurs fans who are saying the 90s Bulls would have no chance against the 07 Spurs.

Their wide outs had 4 catches for 85 yards in that game.

http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/boxscore?gameId=270114024Thanks for the stats, let's look at them.

Using your reasoning, we can also then conclude the Patriots receiving core sucks. Brady had 51 attempts and only accumulated 280 yards, compared to Rivers 32 attempts and 230 yards. Quite a bit more passing done by New England, and not very many more yards. Suspect receiving core?

Another reason your reasoning is flawed.........when you have Tomlinson and Gates as key components of your receiving game, other receivers will not be thrown to as much, which leads to less yards.

If you want to look at individual game stats the answer me this: Reche Caldwell has a wonderful game vs. the Chargers scoring a huge touchdown and averaging 11.4 yards per catch, plus......he has big eyes and can see the ball better than the average receiver. Why was Caldwell cut from the team then? Why will he be on his third team in three years? His stats in the game show you good of a receiver he is. :shootme

The Pats receiving core did suck, that's why they spent tons of money to get new players. Never said it didn't. The whole point is you've got a very good team but you're such a homer you refuse to admit it has any weaknesses at all. Their receivers are spotty at best. Would it kill you to admit this?

I really feel Vincent Jackson will be a very solid #1, and I don't seem to be the only one.http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/mu.../content.3.html (http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/multimedia/photo_gallery/0709/breakout.stars.nfl/content.3.html)
Malcolm Floyd will surprise a lot of people as well. Craig Davis could also be a classic AJ Smith steal. Parker is a very good possession receiver. I don't assume you watch the Chargers as much as I do, so I don't expect you to know as much as I do or be as confident as I am. You remind me of the people last year that laughed at me when I predicted Phillip Rivers to be a stud.

No one likes to count the 1964 AFL Championship either.http://spurstalk.com/forums/images/smilies/smidepressed.gif

That's almost as good as credit for ABA or USFL titles.
