View Full Version : My take on the Barry situation

I'm just wondering why most of the players you sign always seem to suck under popatzi's system?

The guy makes like MLE type of money, unfortunately for you, he's not the answer the Spurs were looking for, a lot of spurs fans have high expectations on this guy, you are still waiting for a break out game (which will never happen) but believe it or not, any player the spurs sign always seem to suck, Derek Anderson, Antonio Daniels, Hedo Turkeyglo, Ron Mercer, Speedy Claxton, Stephen Jackson, Ira Newble they all suck in the spurs' horrible system, when they leave your franchise and go to other teams these guys are always productive and always contribute with high percentage scoring, look at Hedo in Orlando, look at Stephen Jackson (early this seaosn and last year), Claxton, Antonio Daniels, Derek Anderson and the list goes on and on......

Fact of the matter is that any player in spurs uniform will always suck and will never be successful.

Sad but true!

Barry is doomed.

Paging Bruce Bowen. Bruce Bowen, please pick up the white courtesy phone.

George Gervin, Artis Gilmore, James Silas, David Robinson, Tim Duncan, Sean Elliott, Larry Kenon, Billy Paultz, Manu Ginobili, Tony Parker.

Your above statement is so asinine, that's about all that needs to be said.

Championships After Departure From SA:

Derek Anderson - 0
Antonio Daniels - 0
Hedo Turkoglu - Pending
Ron Mercer - 0 (And for the love of God - you call 9 PPG in 35 MPG productive when he had 5 PPG in 13 MPG last season) (He's also so good of a player now, that NBA.com doesn't even have a picture of him PLAYING in his profile)
Speedy Claxton - 0
Stephen Jackson - 0
Ira Newble - 0 (4.3 PPG in 20 MPG) (And if you mean productive as in increasing beauty product production, then OK) (On the other hand, he was awarded "Most Beautiful Female In the NBA")

Things Heard At Ron Mercer's Acceptance Speech For NBA MVP:

"For the last time, I'm not Jim Rome!"

"Listen to that there LJ Ellis, he knows what he speaks."

"I can't believe I've earned this award and have only played in three games this season."

http://www.nba.com/media/act_ron_mercer.jpg

Bringing Ron Mercer into an argument about good former Spurs is like Kobe and hotel workers. They just don't go together.

Ron Mercer's so good, CBS Sportsline doesn't even have him listed as an NBA player.

Damn I thought Derek Anderson was a stud for us and I was crushed when we didnt resign him.

We made SJax into the lights out shooter that he is now. Noone new anything about him before he played for the Spurs.

Speedy Claxton went from being a back up PG for the 76ers to a championship ring to a fat contract all because of the Spurs.

Turkoglu is one of the most over paid players in the league now because of what the Spurs.

The bottom line on all of these players is playing for us made them fat cash somewhere else, what does that say? Apparently someone though highly of AD, Speedy, SJax(this yr) and Turkoglu after leaving us because their next contracts were all MUCH higher.

the spurs make players better and the spurs system points out weaknesses. i think the only player on lakersnob's list that the spurs should have kept (except maybe sjax) is speedy. all of these player's scoring averages go up as a reaction to pop pulling their reigns. sure wish we'd kept Derek Anderson. yea. you bet.

Experiment2100

What sucks is his contract is for about 3 tears 9mil with a third year team option. It wasn't that big a deal, they may have matched it, but I guess the Spurs didn't want anything hurting their chances for resigning Manu.

I honestly think if we had kept DA we would have atleast three rings right now. I still find myself watching the guy and rooting for him even though he spurned us.

Oh well if we had DA we wouldnt have Ginobilli. I guess I can handle that.

He started tonight and put up some damn fine numbers. Maybe that will earn him some playing time.

I have no doubt in my mind he would have stayed here had he known the Warriors were going to deal for Nick Van Exel after promising him the starting PG job.

the only reason speedy might not have deserved to start was his history of injury. Too much of a risk. but when healthy he was great. no speedy no championship #2. and too bad he got screwed when he went to Cali thinking he was gonna start. then they signed Nick. What the hell is Golden State doing with that team? Chris Mullin needs to get a plan.

I'm fine. It gives me a chance to test out new Lakers smack.

And seriously, we do have great discussions from other team's fans on this board.

IILL, Kaster, SickDSM, Sportcamper, etc.

Just some of the few with coherent takes. Besides, healthy ribbing never hurt anybody.

Except LakerGod when he hits his head on the wall.

What surprises me is that he left out disastrous pick ups like Mario Elie, Steve Kerr, and Dennis Rodman (he was an ass, but rebound numbers don't lie). Besides, the spurs free agency could suck balls and they would still compete because they know how to draft. What I find even more hilarious is that all of these guys that "sucked" here, probably put up better numbers than Rick Fox did. How can you cheer for a team that could start that guy?

I think the reason people keep responding is the same reason that people ever went to see Gigli. Sure you're going to hate the movie, but you're going to enjoy making fun of it with your friends.
