LeBron James Pitches Youth Fitness Plan
Associated Press

AKRON, Ohio - Top-draft pick LeBron James of the Cleveland Cavaliers launched a youth fitness program Monday in his hometown.

James and Nike announced the PE2GO program to encourage physical education improvements in schools through teacher training, special gym classes and equipment donations to schools.

The program will be expanded to Chicago; Los Angeles; Memphis, Tenn.; New York; Washington and Portland, Ore.

Nike and James split the cost of funding the program in Akron.

"I was inspired to do this because I had so much fun when I was a little kid and I didn't want any kid to lose out on their childhood," James said.

The goal is to increase physical activity in children by offering them the support and motivation to become physically active.

PE2GO is a joint venture between Nike and the SPARK - Sports, Play and Active Recreation for Kids - program of San Diego State University.
