Big week on Spike... (all times central)

Wed @ 7:00 - New episode of UFC Unleashed
Wed @ 8:00 - UFC Fight Night 11 (LIVE)
Wed @ 10:00 - Premiere of TUF 6
Thurs @ 10:00 - Countdown to UFC 76
Thurs @ 11:00 - All Access: Forrest Griffin

UFC Fight Night 11 - Wed Night on Spike

Main Card
Kenny Florian vs. Din Thomas
Junior Assuncao vs. Nate Diaz
Chris Leben vs. Terry Martin
Nate Quarry vs. Pete Sell

UNDERCARD
Jonathan Goulet vs. Dustin Hazelett
Leonard Garcia vs. Cole Miler
Gray Maynard vs. Joe Veres
Thiago Alves vs. Kuniyoshi Hironaka
Edilberto Crocota vs. Luke Cummo

I really like a lot of these matchups, even on the undercard.

Din Thomas is the perfect test for Florian. Everytime I doubt Florian he shows improvement in his next fight. But I think Din will take this and be right up there with Joe Stevenson for a LW title shot.

Tough test for Nate in his first fight since TUF 5. I think Nate still needs some time to get stronger (he was fortunate that Manny hurt his shoulder).

Terry Martin should murder Leben. I think Martin is getting close to a MW title shot. One more fight after Leben against a better opponent and he'll be there.

It's nice to see Quarry back...have to root for a guy like him. Tough fight to pick, especially since we don't know how Quarry will look after back surgery, but I'm going with Nate...mainly because I'd like to see him win...

Cole Miller and his brother Micah (who fights in the WEC) have both been doing triathlons with the Diaz brothers, so Cole will certainly be in great shape. I think Cole will make the fight very interesting with his constant sub attempts and reach advantage standing, but I'm going with Garcia.

Going with Veres to upset Maynard... :dizzy:

It's a worthwhile risk to make for a bet. Bookmaker has him at +175 in the other bet, sportsbook has Hironaka at +185. Great value bets.

Bodog odds...

Thiago Alves -220
Kuniyoshi Hironaka +180

Nate Quarry -260
Pete Sell +200

Terry Martin -210
Chris Leben +170

Kenny Florian -165
Din Thomas +135

Alves and Martin are money in the bank...Thomas and Sell are decent UD's...

I don't think it was an easy card to pick. Most of the fighters are closely matched, so it makes it hard to definitively say who will win. I think it should be some really good battles. Of course, some with think boring if there isn't a knockout every single fight.

Cro Cop said that before GP and he won it.

This is different IMO.

He wanted more money from PRIDE. That was simply positioning for a contract. Hughes did the same thing.

I think Cro Cop is dead serious now which is obvious based on his performance and Din has retired before. Now that I think on it, didn't he talk about retiring on the show?

Good for Nate. He looked awesome and Pete Sell should be embarrassed.

I had completely forgotten about Nates standing chest stomps. I love that tactic. You possibly knock the wind from your opponent while forcing him back. One reason I love Cung Le so much, he uses that move in every few attacks.

speaking of Le.....when is he fighting again.....

Hopefully November 10 against someone with a ground game

4/9...ouch! :lol

I can't believe they couldn't squeeze in Gray beating Veres in 9 seconds. By the way, I picked Veres as an upset after talking to a guy that trains under him. He said his wrestling was the equivalent of Gray's and his striking and subs are better. He said a 9 second loss isn't at all indicative of his skills. Maybe we'll see him again...

Too bad Din got hurt...was looking like a great fight, although Kenny was looking better to me.

Leben is a tough/lucky mofo, although he did eat some big punches and stay up. That KO was a desperation punch that landed perfectly. He did look like a different fighter though...

Props to Quarry...he's tougher than I thought...

It sounds like Alves, Hazelett, and Cummo dominated...

Diaz looked great, and it sounds like Cole did too. I'll be looking for those fights in a day or 2...

Anybody else catch the fan that yelled "put him in a body bag!" during the Leben - Martin fight? Genius...

You would have won the sig bet with Alves..
I got 5/9, not too bad I suppose.
Quarry looked like crap, but stood in there. I can't believe he knocked Sell out.
Alves made Hironaka submit from leg kicks.. I guess like Cro Cop did to Yoshida.

Good night of fights overall. I wish Din didn't hurt himself. I wanted to see where it actually went. Florian was leading at the time anyway.

He looked pretty bad in the fight.. he showed heart by staying in there, but it seemed like the 1800's and Western Union was sending telegrams by horse to Pete Sell. I'm suprised Sell got caught, Quarry was only really landing second and third hits off of combos. Hopefully it was ring rust and nerves of wanting to win his fight, etc. Maybe he'll look better next go around.

Wow.. I don't think I've seen so many injury suspensions

http://mmajunkie.com/2007/09/20/ufc-fight-night-11-medical-suspensions-issued/

The Nevada State Athletic Commission has issued a slew of medical suspensions following last night’s UFC Fight Night 11 event, which took place at The Palms Las Vegas and aired on Spike TV.

MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) received the paperwork directly from the NSAC.

Only one of the night’s nine fights went the full three rounds, and as a result, a small army of fighters — many who endured brutal knockouts and submissions — will need special clearance before returning to the Octagon.

The full list of suspensions includes:

Din Thomas (first-round loss via rear-naked choke to Kenny Florian): minimum suspension until Oct. 20 with no contact in training until Oct. 11. Additionally, Thomas will need to have an MRI of his right knee and receive clearance from an orthopedic doctor; otherwise, his suspension will run until March 18, 2008.

Chris Leben (third-round TKO of Terry Martin): Suspended until Oct. 20 with no contact until Oct. 11.

Terry Martin (third-round TKO loss to Leben): Suspended until Nov. 19 with no contact until Nov. 4.

Junior Assuncao (first-round loss via guillotine choke to Nate Diaz): Suspended until Oct. 20 with no contact until Oct. 11. Assuncao must have his right foot X-rayed and cleared by a doctor; otherwise, his suspension will run until March 18, 2008.

Nate Quarry (third-round TKO of Pete Sell): Suspended until Oct. 20 with no contact until Oct. 11.

Pete Sell (third-round TKO loss to Quarry): Suspended until Nov. 19 with no contact until Nov. 4. Sell must have his thumb cleared by a doctor; otherwise, his suspension will run until March 18, 2008.

Edilberto Crocota (first-round TKO loss to Luke Cummo): Suspended until Nov. 4 with no contact until Oct. 20.

Joe Veres (first-round TKO loss to Gray Maynard): Suspended until Oct. 20 with no contact until Oct. 11.

Kuniyoshi Hironaka (second-round TKO loss to Thiago Alves): Suspended until Nov. 4 with no contact until Oct. 20.

Jonathan Goulet (first-round loss via verbal tapout to Dustin Hazelett): Suspended until Oct. 20 with no contact until Oct. 11. Goulet must have his elbow X-rayed and cleared by an orthopedic doctor; otherwise, his suspension will run until March 18, 2008.
