"Ego isn't what makes him go." :lol
I think he's one of the most egotistical players in the league...especially when he's got no hardware to back it up.

Ego isn't what makes Allen go
New Celtic wants chance for a title

BURLINGTON - With an elusive NBA championship ring serving as motivation, Ray Allen has no problem going from a Sonics star to a Celtics co-star.
Allen has averaged 21.5 points during his 11-year career and a career-high 26.4 points last season with Seattle. But now with hot-scoring All-Star teammates Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce, Allen's scoring average will certainly dip and his spotlight will be shared. But considering he is tired of losing and eager for a realistic shot at a title in Boston, the seven-time All-Star has no problem being a star among stars.

"I've never been insecure," Allen said after a media luncheon for Comcast SportsNet yesterday. "I've never been the jealous type. I don't have a big ego. But I have a lot of bite. I have a lot of dog inside of me. When I need to go and do what I need to do and get what I need to get, then I'm going to do it. As far as other people, I celebrate other people's careers because it makes me work harder.

"[Pierce] can feel a little slighted because two [stars] were added. But Paul is still the main focus here. But there are going to be people that love me, there are going to be people that love Paul, there are going to be people that love Kevin, there are going to be people that love Scot Pollard.

"Everyone is going to have their own initial fan base. For whatever reason, they take to you and celebrate you. That's part of the game. You have your options on who you love, like, follow, or even hate."

Allen said he has talked to Garnett and Pierce about putting their egos aside in hopes of each winning their first NBA title. Allen said they've also talked about how it's going to take a team effort, and not just three stars, to get Boston a 17th championship. Training camp begins Sept. 30 in London.

"We have to absolve ourselves of any animosity or any egos out there on the floor," Allen said. "If we win, everybody will ride together on whatever float it is on the championship parade. We'll all ride together."

The 2001 NBA 3-point-shooting champ is a two-time All-NBA selection and considered one of the league's top shooters. But after playing in small-market Milwaukee and Seattle, Allen acknowledged Celtics fans might not be familiar with his game.

"The people haven't seen me play," Allen said. "We haven't been on TV, there's that sense. But it's not going to keep me from doing what I do, or keep me from being who I am. All I can do is continue to play basketball, get better, and make these people in this city know about who I am and what I bring to them."

Allen was limited to 55 games last season because of ankle problems and underwent surgery on both in early April. He credited Celtics trainer Ed Lacerte and strength and conditioning coaches Bryan Doo and Walter Norton in aiding his recovery.

"I'm back at what I've known to be at full strength in my drills," Allen said. "I'm able to shoot at every angle and spot on the floor."

Since going to Seattle in the 2002-03 season, Allen has played in the playoffs only once (2005). With the Sonics' struggles and a recent ownership change, the former UConn star is proud to be a Celtic.

"I'm over what was going on in Seattle because there was so much inconsistency in the change of the ownership," said Allen, who has family in Connecticut. "They're talking about moving the team to Oklahoma City. It was just an [unstable] situation [in Seattle].

"Knowing that I am coming back to the East Coast, I was going to be around family and friends and be in [the Celtics] organization. I take pride in teams I've played for. There is nothing like walking around the world anywhere and being able to find a Boston Celtics hat and knowing you play for that team."

Individual tickets for Celtics home games are on sale today at noon at the TD Banknorth Garden box office, at celtics.com, or calling 1-800-4NBA-TIX beginning at 1 p.m. Because of the overwhelming demand, fans are encouraged to order early.

They're certainly not a lock for a ring but there is no excuse for this team to not succeed. Especially since they were able to round out the rest of the roster nicely.

As far as I'm concerned they are one vet point guard away from being a total package. On paper that is.

I'm waiting for SpursDynasty to weigh in with something along the lines of "Just because you want a title doesn't mean you get to have one. You have to be good enough Jesus Shuttlesworth, and you're not."
