Man may face felony charges of animal cruelty

Robstown police are awaiting DNA results to determine if felony charges will be filed against a 27-year-old Victoria man they suspect had sex with a dog.

Eduardo Ramos III was arrested earlier this month on misdemeanor charges of public lewdness and disorderly conduct after police found him naked in his pickup with the scared animal, said Robstown Police Detective Arturo Gonzalez.

Ramos has since bonded out of the Nueces County Jail.

The disorderly conduct charge stemmed from sexual contact with the stray, female dog, which was later identified as a wired-hair terrier mix, but officers used a sexual assault kit on the dog to see if Ramos should face more severe charges of animal cruelty, Gonzalez said.

Samples were sent to the Texas Department of Public Safety for testing.

“He denied having sexual intercourse with the dog, but he did implicate himself to having sexual contact with the dog,” Gonzalez said.

Officers arrested Ramos on Sept. 12 after approaching his white Ford truck, which was parked along County Road 44 near Bauer Road at about 2:40 a.m.

Gonzalez said Ramos was naked in the driver's seat, glistening with lotion, and the dog was in the truck bed. In front of the truck, on the ground, were Ramos' boots and underwear and a bottle of baby lotion. Ramos told officers he had picked up the dog at a local gas station that morning.

Everhart Animal Hospital in Corpus Christi is taking care of the dog, which has been named Montana, until the shelter finds someone to adopt it.
