Camp roster set
By Peter May, Globe Staff
The Celtics signed former Memphis Grizzlies guard-forward Dahntay Jones and Atlanta Hawks forward-center Estaban Batista to non-guarenteed contracts and will join the team in Europe for training camp, bringing the roster to 17.

Jones, who has played his entire four-year career with the Grizzlies, played in a career-high 78 games last season. He averaged 7.5 points and 2.0 rebounds per game.

Batista, 6-foot-10, 270-pound Uruguay native, played sparingly for Atlanta last season, but averaged a tournament-best 12.4 rebounds and 20.8 points during the recent FIBA Americas Championship in Las Vegas.

Rajon Rondo / Eddie House / Gabe Pruitt
Ray Allen / Tony Allen / Dahntay Jones
Paul Pierce / James Posey / Jackie Manuel
Kevin Garnett / Brian Scalabrine / Leon Powe / Brandon Wallace
Kendrick Perkins / Scot Pollard / Esteban Batista / Glen Davis

That's their training camp roster. Obviously, they need to trim it down. Their 9 man rotation looks to be KG, Pierce, Ray Allen, Rondo, Perkins, Posey, Pollard, House, and whatever fourth big man steps up. It could be Batista, Baby Davis, or Scalabrine. It's doubtful that it's Powe or Wallace. Tony Allen has a chance to get sparse minutes at the swing position, but with Posey able to play the 2 or 3 as well as Pierce, it will be tough for him to find much PT.

could they be sending wallace and manuel (possibly davis?) to the d-league?

it's true they need to trim this team down.

Wouldn't be surprised to see Batista starting at some point. Putting a banger next to those three scorers makes sense.

Then again, that's assuming a lot considering Doc Rivers is the coach.

Two very good, under-the-radar type of signings. Jones is a very good get. Batista is a question mark, but, as others have said, he's played real well in FIBA play, so perhaps he's someone who can make a 10-minute impact.
