‘The Dark Knight’ Themed Roller Coaster Coming To Three Six Flags Theme Parks In 2008

New York -- Six Flags announced today that it will open a new indoor, themed roller coaster based on Warner Bros. Pictures' upcoming movie The Dark Knight featuring DC Comics' characters Batman and The Joker at three of its theme parks next year.

The new attraction named “The Dark Knight Coaster” will open at Six Flags Great Adventure in Jackson, NJ, Six Flags Great America in Gurnee, IL and Six Flags New England in Agawam, MA in May 2008. Each installation will cost an estimated $7.5 million.

"Today's announcement represents Six Flags Great America's continued focus on delivering a well-rounded and balanced entertainment package," said Hank Salemi, Six Flags Great America's Park President.

The Dark Knight Coaster according to Six Flags will transform guests into citizens of Gotham City - caught in the middle of a city under siege and torn apart by The Joker.

"The Dark Knight Coaster offers a unique experience that will appeal to families and teens alike," added Mark Kane, Six Flags Great Adventure's Park President.

On board The Dark Knight Coaster, guests will experience the ride of their lives.

Six Flags says the excitement begins as guests venture through demented hallways of twists, turns and hallucinatory images, while they are tormented by The Joker himself. Then as they set foot onto a distressed, vandalized train platform, they can only guess at what awaits them as they speed through six 180-degree hairpin turns, climb unseen hills, plunge into pitch darkness and dip into unforeseen danger. And of course, in the midst of all this chaos it’ll be up to Batman himself to save you.

"The opening of The Dark Knight Coaster will be perfectly-timed to coincide with the debut of the next Batman film from director Christopher Nolan. We're very excited that fans will be able to have a first-hand experience with the sites, sounds and thrills of crime fighting in Gotham City," said Brad Globe, President, Warner Bros. Worldwide Consumer Products.

Six Flags says The Dark Knight Coaster’s will use storytelling, physical movement, video, sound and special effects to bring guests a one-of-a-kind dark ride experience.

“At a cost of $7.5 million, The Dark Knight will be the first indoor roller coaster at Six Flags New England,” said Larry Litton, Six Flags New England's Park President.

The plans is to locate this new roller coaster in the Orleans Place at Six Flags Great America, the DC section at Six Flags New England and Movietown at Six Flags Great Adventure.

Planning and initial preparation for the construction of The Dark Knight Coaster is already underway at all three Six Flags parks.

Warner Bros. The Dark Knight movie opens July 18, 2008 at theatres nationwide.

Sounds like the kind of big expensive rides that are at the Universal and Disney parks :eyebrows :tu :tu

The Dark Knight Loves Sweets

The silver screen continues to figure big in the marketing of sweets, and among the flavor fits unveiled during last week’s All Candy Expo was Hershey’s hook up with Warner Bros.’ next installment of the Batman series The Dark Knight coming to theaters next July. The Reese’s line will include bat-shaped chocolate and peanut butter pieces, and Kit Kat wafers bars will be stamped with the bat signal.

Wrappers and displays for both brands will flag an instant win sweepstakes for Bat Cave prizes like Batman-themed Ducati motorcycle, media center wall, replica movie props and downloadable posters.

Today's question from the tip jar at my local coffee place:

How does the Gotham City PD get in touch with Batman during the day (Bat signal would only work at night)?

It's always dark in Gotham even during the day. Don't ask me why it's a comic book.
