NEW YORK (CNN/Money) - The 1976 AMC Pacer used in the 1992 movie "Wayne's World" is among the items to be sold by an Illinois car museum.

The Volo Auto Museum in Volo, Ill., is auctioning off about 100 items, including 25 to 30 cars, from its collection in order to make room for new exhibits.

Besides the robin's-egg blue Pacer with a "flame job" on the front fenders, the museum will also be selling a 1951 Studebaker painted to portray a Gotham City police car for the "Batman" movie series, the Gadget Mobile from the movie "Inspector Gadget" and a wrecked 1970 Dodge Charger used in 2001's "The Fast and the Furious."

The asking price for the "Wayne's World" Pacer is $15,000. AMC Pacers originally had a sticker price of about $3,500. One in excellent condition today will usually sell for about $5,600, according to used car pricing Web site Nadaguides.com.

The most valuable item to be auctioned is a prototype Shelby GT-500 convertible Mustang once owned by race driver and engineer Carroll Shelby. The museum is asking $1.2 million for that car.

"This is a once-in-a-lifetime chance to own a piece of history," said museum sales director Brian Grams. "We are thrilled to be able to offer this opportunity to the public."

Invited guests will be able to view the items for sale on Dec. 17. The general public will be allowed to see the items the following day. After that, remaining items will be made available on the museum's Web site at volocars.com.

"Wayne's World," based on a series of skits from the TV show Saturday Night Live, starred Mike Myers and Dana Carvey as two friends with their own public access cable TV show.

The Pacer was introduced by American Motors Corp. in 1975. Marketing for the car touted the substantial interior room provided by its extra-wide body. AMC stopped selling the Pacer in 1980. Top of page

The Gremlin was tight. People don't realize how radical that design was for it's time. Prospective buyers would walk up and say "Where's the back of the car?". Unfortunately, AMC must have had some shitty management. The only remnant to survive was the Jeep line, which was acquired by Chrysler when they bought AMC/Renault in 1987. The Jeeps, plus a couple of models like the Spirit and the Eagle, were the only models to survive the takeover.
