Splitter vs. Scola: Which one is the better fit?

Better fit for the Spurs in the long term: Splitter or Scola.

Splitter. He's younger, has the ability to play two positions (unlike Scola) which makes him more versatile, and he has much much better potential on the defensive end of the court than Scola - which is ultimately what drives playing time around here.

Youth - by 5 years or so

Versatility: can play both PF & C

Potential: Better at D than Scola. His O isn't as needed as his D to the Spurs at this time/when he comes and plays next year. Once TD goes then it will be needed more. By that time maybe he will have upped his game or other players take up the slack. Either way his D is much more important to the Spurs than is O.

not even close, scola is a much better offensive player. splitter might be an average nba big man. might is the key word. spurs can't go forever with only one option on offense down low. scola + duncan on the blocks would've been unstoppable.

Splitter will benefit from another year playing for a premier Euro team in a leadership role. I thought Scola would have worked on the Spurs as a backup for Duncan and occasionally playing next to him. But either he didn't want to or the Spurs FO didn't want him, and that's kind of a tired topic.

I was looking forward to watching Manu, Oberto, and Scola playing together. I am also not so happy with Scola landing in Houston. Scola could be a good fit with Adelman's offensive style (Scola does not help Yao stay out of foul trouble though).

Splitter is a better fit with the Spurs because of his youth, athleticism, ability to defend and rebound. Scola will be happier starting with the Rockets. I am not sure Scola would handle coming off the bench as well as Manu and Oberto have. Once Splitter became available, Scola became expendable.

Scola's price tag wasn't that bad. It would have been nice to keep both. Like many, I will be watching how Scola does.

Pretty obvious for the long term. Splitter is not only young, but his main strength is defense, and that's what the Spurs system is about. Scola would have given us a boost on offense and helped carry the scoring load, but that's about it.

Definately Tiago. A legit 7'0" shoes (i think he measured 6'10.5" without shoes in 2003 as an 18 year old) with a good standing reach. Most importantly knows how to play on the defensive end.

Splitter will presumably be around for a long time, even after TD's retirement and can complement TD during his remaining years.

Scola would have been a back-up PF to TD for the forseeable future and maybe for the rest of TD's career.

Based on reports, Scola has the edge on offense with Splitter better on defense, probably because of attitude as much as anything.

We've got plenty of firepower, but we need a good long defender.

Splitter works best for me.

The reason I am so impressed with splitter is his willingness to pass to to the open man if needed and he also he gets up and down the court very well. These 2 attributes in a young big man are huge and shows team first mindset. His offense and defense will get better with more playing time.

The defense is there, BBall IQ... but his shooting mechanics needs a major overhaul..
