It all started with a piece of birthday cake, but it ended up with a high school girl being beaten and expelled.

This is going to ruin your day. A young woman of color in Los Angeles had her wrist broken by a school security officer after not cleaning up a piece of dropped birthday cake to his satisfaction. During the attack he said, "hold still nappy head."

The girl, 16 year-old Pleajhai Mervin, was subsequently expelled and arrested for littering and battery. Because as you can clearly see from the video still above, this teenage girl was battering the shit out a full grown, beefy security guard. Uh huh.

Students at the scene captured the assault on their cell phones; one such student was also beaten.

Students have planned a walk-out in protest. Do your part--spread the word.

Here is a link to the video (http://www.myfoxla.com/myfox/pages/Home/Detail;jsessionid=81401CAEF2EC7F5196628A8E31DC23D3 ?contentId=4473580&version=2&locale=EN-US&layoutCode=VSTY&pageId=1.1.1&sflg=1)

In an even more shocking development the security guards later had the mother of the girl arrested after she sought out an attorney and demanded that the guard be arrested, telling her that if she wanted the guard detained then she herself would also be charged with battery after she allegedly pushed the guard and an assistant principal of the school. She has also been suspended from her job at another school in the county.

The school expelled Pleajhai for five days before then having her arrested for battery and for littering (the dropping of the cake). Then they had the pupil who captured the video arrested along with his sister who was merely present at the scene.

Well, this guard is in deep trouble if this is true as it appears. Often however, you find circumstances not reported...

I'm not saying the guard was right, I'll bet he should be in jail for assault. I'm just saying there may be facts not reported!

The broken wrist and racist comment were completely taken out of context.

There should be a new law. One that involves on-lookers of authority action to freely film the events. Regardless if its a school, church, street or private residence.

Meanwhile, Giuliani doesn't want to be misconstrued...or does he?

Giuliani Next Stop

It's almost a necessity for any presidential candidate who swings through Philadelphia — making a stop at one of the city's famous cheesesteak shops.

But the landmark Philly restaurant former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani plans to stop at later Monday is also famous for another reason: its controversial 'Please speak English' sign.

Joe Vento, the owner of Geno's Steaks, sparked controversy last year when he put up a sign at his store proclaiming, "This is America. When Ordering Please Speak English."

Rachel Lawton, the executive director of the city's Human Relations Commission (HRC), blasted the sign in June 2006, saying it amounts to discrimination against those who cannot speak English. A hearing on the sign was scheduled last Wednesday but was postponed because the city wanted more time to review Vento's motion to dismiss the case, according to the Philadelphia Evening Bulletin.

Thanks for linking the story Dan, I'll be keeping an eye on this.
