He's out 3-4 weeks to "rehab." He needs to get that towel hand back in shape. It was his "pointer" finger.

Now, if it was anyone else they'd wrap it up, suck it up and get back out there.
I forgot. It's Beno. He's probably got a juice box, an ice pack and is at home with his dog.

This sounds similar to 2006 training camp. Beno comes into camp fired up trying to prove something and then gets injured. Its time to cut ties or if Cleveland is still interested in a 9 finger Beno (which could be better than 10 finger Beno) then send him packing..

Wouldn't the broken finger pretty much save Udrih's job?

Usually vets get cut fairly early in camp to 'give them a chance to sign on with another team', but now, he doesn't have to beat out Vaughn or prove anything, he's got a month to relax.

They bring Spanoulis in future to replace him anyway.

Considering how big his buyout is, that's years away.

Jeff McDonald: Bad break for Beno
With Tony Parker taking it easy after his tiresome summer, the Spurs were looking forward to taking a good long look at backup point guard Beno Udrih in training camp.

So much for best laid plans.

Udrih is likely miss the rest of the preseason with a broken left index finger. He watched Thursday morning's workout in street clothes with a cast around his entire hand.

"Tony was going to start out kind of slow, so it was an opportunity for (Udrih) to get some minutes," Spurs coach Gregg Popovich said. "It really is a tough break for him, no pun intended."

It is indeed bad news for Udrih, who is in the final year of his contract. He needs to use this season to prove his worth to the Spurs (or a potential trade partner or free agent suitor). So far, not so good.

Yes, but it's not a big deal for Spurs. I don't think Pop was ready to give the backup PG spot back to Beno.

It will too be interesting to see if Beno can be in shape for the start o the season. He will have the whole training camp to work on his physical with Spurs staff. Maybe Spurs physical trainers will be able to lower his body fat %.

UDRIH SUFFERS NON-DISPLACED FRACTURE OF LEFT INDEX FINGER

SAN ANTONIO – The San Antonio Spurs today announced that Beno Udrih suffered a non-displaced fracture of his left index finger. The injury occurred this morning during practice.

Udrih was examined by team doctors and his left hand was placed in a cast. He will be re-evaluated in two weeks.

The question for me is whether the Spurs will only have 2 PG's on the active roster this year. Since everyone is predicting Udoka to get playing time, it seems like they will have to only have 2 active PG's. I can't see Barry sitting on the IR making 5 million, especially since he is still one of the most accurate 3-pt shooters in the NBA.

Spurs' backup guard Udrih breaks finger at training camp

Associated Press

Updated: October 4, 2007, 4:30 PM ET

SAN ANTONIO -- San Antonio Spurs guard Beno Udrih broke his finger in training camp on Thursday.

Udrih will wear a cast for a couple of weeks while his left index finger heals, and probably won't be able to do much for three or four weeks, said Spurs coach Gregg Popovich.

Udrih didn't have as big a role on the team last season because veteran Jacque Vaughn took over as backup point guard to Tony Parker. Udrih is beginning his fourth season with the Spurs. He averaged 4.7 points in 73 games last year.

LOL at all the macho bs here. If you all have never broken your finger stfu :rolleyes :devil :nope :smokin

You must have had a jammed finger, with no fracture or tendon tear or rupture. Let me tell you, I had suffered a mallet-finger(ring finger-right hand) playing basketball(just like the pic below) and that thing swelled up the size of a thumb. The skin area beneath the nail split open and was bleeding. I had a fracture, and torn tendon. You never guess how much pain and inflamation you would get in the weeks and months following. Simple things like putting on socks and shoes or pulling up pants etc would cause such pain and take forever. I had to have surgery and wear a splint for 6 months. Not sure if this is that bad, but I would not be laughing at a broken finger being a pansy injury.

Beno figured that Parker made huge strides by breaking his finger last year, so he's trying the same approach this year.

Maybe this will be the start of a new, reformed Beno. Dedicated to working on his game, playing through injury, and accepting responsibility for his own actions!
