I remember reading a news article somewhere about how less people seem to be wearing watches these days because they are using their mobile phones to get the current time.
It kind of hit home because i stopped wearing a watch a couple of years ago when i realized everytime i wanted to know what time it was, I'd just look at my phone.
Have you ever worn a watch?
Have you stopped?
Or do you still wear one?
I feel naked if I'm not wearing my watch.
Or carrying a pocket knife.
But you're right, more and more people I see rely on their phone for the time.

I'm wearing one right now. It's still easier than digging through my pockets to get my phone out.

I'm the same way with both of those items.

Of course. Why would I buy a $10,000 Rolex if I wasn't going to wear it?

I don't have a cell, so I wear a watch when I have appointments to keep.

I have three things on me at all times: a watch, a cell phone and my pistol. I have a CHL, so I just keep my pistol in a belly band.

I haven't worn a watching in about 10 years. Between my two cell phones, I can always find one of them to get the current time.
Beezie, what do you carry?

It depends what I'm doing as to how often I refer to my watch. There are so many ways to see the TOD now with the laptop, smartphone, TV, microwave oven...even projector clock radios projecting time on the wall or ceiling. Yes, I use them all but when I'm outside and doing stuff, the good old watch is still the best. Your hands can be dirty, wet, busy...whatever, but it's easy to just glance at the watch without slowing up. Most people probably aren't aware of how often they look at the time each day but I'm sure it's a lot more than realized.

I've never worn a watch, even before everybody had cell phones. just never felt comfortable. I've gotten a few watches as gifts but even then i'd just wear it for a week and never again.

I haven't worn a watch regularly in about 5 years, mostly because the one I had stopped working and I didn't buy another.
But between computers having the time, cell phones, clocks on radios in cars, clocks on the microwave and on DVR/DVD/VCR players....I don't need a watch.

Once my watch broke I stopped wearing them... I kinda miss that watch but I really don't need one. And I don't want a watch tan line.

I love watches, but haven't worn one in years. My favorite watch broke, I never got around to replacing it, and now I'm just accustomed to going without.

I had finally gotten up the nerve to buy this very expensive gold and diamond watch I had wanted forever ... and I had it probably 3 months and it disappeared. :(
Now I have a little gold & silver Seiko with a charm bracelet-type band that I wear, if I remember to put it on.

Watches that stop working bother the crap out of me, which is why I rarely wear them.
It made sense to wear one over the summer while running around with kids and stuff. The schedule was tight and it was hard to pull out a phone, especially if I didn't have pockets. I even bought a good watch before I started working...it broke within a week because I got it a tad wet (it was water resistant).

I actually get nervous when I don't wear a watch. When I do like dirty jobs around the house I take it off, but the first thing I do after finishing (and taking a shower obviously) is to get it back. Other than that I always wear a watch.
I have a lot of watches that have accumulated through the years but only have a couple nice ones.

Same here. For some reason it really bugs me to feel it hitting against my laptop. When I had a desptop CPU, I had no problem.

I normally do not wear watches- just use my cell phone. I do have one that is shaped like a fish that I like to wear.
Just because I am curious, a question to the men whom wear watches- how many do you own?

Flava Flaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaav!
I wear a metal Fossil watch which looks like this (http://ec1.images-amazon.com/images/I/41-9WusMUVL._AA280_.jpg) except the face plate looks silver. I take it off when I am typing, because like other have mentioned it hits my laptop and drives me crazy. Even though it is waterproof (up to 100m I believe), I also take it off to swim and shower just because it gets annoying.
My cell phone now does my alarm, stop watch, timer etc so having one of those big watches that does everything but wipe your ass is pretty much pointless now.
I wear my watch basically any time I need to look nice (something about a man not wearing a watch not looking "complete"... yes I am vain). This basically means work and dinners. Other than that it usually stays off. Complete 180 from how it used to be. Funny how cell phones have changed things.

I wear a watch while I am working all the time. Other than that...I wear one once in a while. If I need the time that bad, I'll just look at my cell phone.

A watch isn't just a time piece. It's part of your wardrobe. I might make a quick run to the store, and not put one on...but typically I always wear a watch. I've probably got 15 or so that I switch up with. Nothing terribly expensive, but they all have their place.

I’m with the crowd that doesn’t wear a watch. Now first of all, I used to lose watches like crazy. I would take a shower or go swimming, and it was gone. I know, the shower doesn’t sound likely except I was in the Army sharing a room and shower facility with others. I switched to a divers watch and never took it off. I had this same watch for 15 years before buying a pager. Being one that cannot stand timepieces to read differently, I kept the watch in my toolbox so I could use the stopwatch feature for timing things at work. In 1999, I got a cell phone account and dropped the pager account.
I have to say though, like others mentioned. My arm felt naked for some time. It did take some getting used to.
