View Full Version : So who do we want the Spurs to play in the Finals?

Watching the Celtics highlights on espn has got me hyped to face them in June..finally a matchup that gives us both a (relatively) potent foe as well as national appeal. I'm not sure if Miami is even a top tier team anymore so here's praying KG and ray ray can leave there choking reputation behind and deliver out there...

I personally want them to play Chicago, but ratings-wise it has to be Boston.

I think they'd have a better chance to beat Atlanta, than Chicago or Boston.

That would be the sickest and toughest road to the 'ship in Spurs history. Those series I would love to watch. I agree. :tu

Boston would be fun just because of the rivalries: Boston vs. "the pick", Timmy vs KG, Bruce vs Jesus. It'll probably end up being Miami if Wade can stay healthy.

IMO, it's a tad early to be talking about the Finals.

But that could just be me . . .

I would say Boston in the NBA Finals. Unless Detroit or Miami can return to championship form.

As far as the West, the Spurs are pretty much a given for the Finals. There's no team in the West that can compete with the Spurs on a championship level.

how can spurs play rockets in the 1st round unless sa and hou finish 4 and 5. i highly doubt that happens. why are you guys worrying about the finals like its a sure bet yall will be there. spurs are a good team but there're not the 90s bulls good or the dominant lakers good who won 3 in a row.

I always say it doesn't matter who we play as long as we win, but Spurs vs Celtics would be fun to watch if only to for Duncan to close the door on the KG comparison. But we're still a ways away from knowing if the Celtics are going to have any kind of chemistry. Look at the Rockets, they've got some decent talent but their stars keep getting injured and even when they're healthy, they can't get out of the first round.

But I like KG in the East. He should dominate, as usual it's the rest of his team that has to show up.

I would like to play the Mavericks in the WCF and give them pay back for 06.

Since the verb in the question is "want", who do you want to represent the west in the finals?

Besides, the fans and the team need to set the championship aspirations early IMO. Nobody did that in '06 because the team seemed to be cruising along. That was a mistake.

It has to be the Celtics for a couple of reasons.

1. the TD vs KG matchup would be delicious
2. The matchup would give the Boston fans and media yet another closeup of TD, thereby giving them more reasons to whine about "getting robbed during the 1997 NBA Draft Lottery"

On the one hand, a TD/KG battle would be fun... On the other hand, it would also be fun to see KG lose in the first round again.

The Heat? Seriously? Is Smush Parker that good? Did I miss the memo? I think the Heat could struggle just to make the playoffs...even in the East.

No, but Wade IS that good. You've watched him in the playoffs right? So far the only thing that's stopped him is injuries. Until a team emerges from that conference, the team with the best player will go to the finals.

IF the Spurs got the Finals...I don't think there is anyone in the East who can compete with them in a 7 game series....maybe Chicago if they mesh this season.

That's a Big IF to jumpstart though. They have to get through some pretty tough teams in the West; Mavs, Suns, Jazz, Rockets, Nuggets all have a chance at beating them.

Wade's a fraud, he just lurches into people to draw fouls. there is no way Miami gets past Chicago or Boston.

:sleep :sleep Sorry I think the defending southwest division champs might have something to say about that. Mavs/Celts would be an epic finals. Dirk vs KG...somebody finally getting over the hump. Avery vs Dock Rivers...former spurs vs former spur which will make Spurs fans excited anyways. Can the celts get title #17? Cans the Mavs finally get their 1st? Chicago. I don't think the Celtics will come close to the ECF. There is such a thing as chemistry and the Celtics with their recently acquired big names have yet to demonstrate that they have it. I say let the regular season begin so we can see if this very much over-hyped bunch in Boston can last 82 games without spinning apart.

Highly unlikely. Two of those teams will play each other and one will be eliminated before the Spurs get to them.
