The team doesnt have a real point guard. Manu Tim and Tony all average around 4 assists a game give or take

Manu can see the floor better and is a better playmaker but Tony has always had that score first mentality so i don't expect his assts to ever be all that high

Pop hates playing Manu at point guard and doesn't think he's that great at it at all.

But good job starting another troll thread so early in the preseason.

So this is how you should evaluate players? Looking at statistics in one preseason game?

By this measurement Bonner is better than Duncan (14pts/9rbds in 25 minutes being better than 20pts/10 rbds in 34)... Ok I am unfair with Duncan because I don't take assists and blocks into consideration.

Manu is a 1-2 guard
Tony is actually a small 2guard.

Manu can get 7 assists regardless of what position he plays.

Ne and Barry are probably the best passers on the team.

Manu is a great versatile player, but I think it is a stretch to say he is a better point guard than Tony based on assists alone. I like Parker at the PG spot just fine.

Manu is a veteran basketball player. He can handle the point.

ducks
10-10-2007, 10:59 AM
no he can not
because he can not handle the starting point guard minutes

did not tp win finals mvp and you want to replace him now with somone else
why

yeah he can Pop just never gives him the minutes

ducks

pop limits his minutes
you want your starting point guard to play 36-42 minutes a night

Manu sucks as a point guard. They lost.

As a spur fan it must be nice to know that even if TP or Vaughn gets hurt, you won't have to rely on Beno for backup PG minutes. Manu proved he can handle the job just fine, at least for short spells

ducks
10-10-2007, 11:08 AM
yes aas a backup manu is ok at point
but not your starter

Not discuss. Nash is better than Tony and Manu and Kobe, all together :smokin

I don't want to replace him.
Only when TP is injured or tired.

Manu because of his high basketball IQ can handle the point.
Plus there's Barry

yeah i agree obviously tony will be the starting pg i'm just saying it might not be a bad idea to use Manu at point from time to time considering the back-up pg situation

i think Manus role is well defined,
i dont like the idea of him as a pg.
that takes energy away from him.

Parker (but barely)

nkdlunch
10-10-2007, 12:44 PM
Seriously, Parker is a great PG. he is not a typical PG, where he would Pass first.

He is a shooting/penetrating PG that will take a lot of attention from the opposing defense and he is unstoppable ever since he developed consistent shot and clutchness. This is why he is top 5 PG in the league.

I know some ppl critizize him for not passing first, but they need to open their eyes and see that still he is top 5 PG in the league.

that being said, Manu is not too shabby of a PG. his strength is that he gets teammates involved more. but that is not his natural position, he is best as a SG

You presented facts, but explain to me how comparing one player's numbers in a meaningless preseason game with another's season long average is in any way logical.

That's even dumber than saying Bonner had more points and rebounds than Duncan last night, so therefore Bonner is a better power forward.

spursfan09
10-10-2007, 01:15 PM
TP is not a traditional point guard, But he's young, can score alot of points in diff ways and he almost is always the fastest player in the game. I think TP is the better pg, and will eventually be considered the better NBA player than Manu. Kind of already is actually. But I know Manu was older and his game affects more than the stat sheet. So I'm am not at all trying to downplay Manu's importance to the Spurs.

I think Manu's court vision is superior than Tony's, but Tony's ballhandling ability and court penetration is better, making him a more steady playmaker or pace controller than Manu. Since the Spurs system doesn't require the PG spot to be the ultimate source of playmaking ability, Tony's perfect within our system, so is Manu. They're complimenting each other.

Good job! :tu
