New in town, and looking.
Preferably Northwest area.

For burgers on the NW--try Lone Star Grill at Tezel and Guilbeau. You didn't specify fancy/inexpensive or a certain type of food, so I am just throwin' that place out for you. It's really good, and they are new and I am sure they would appreciate the business.

What kind of food? What area exactly? (without sounding too stalkerish) I know a lot of posters here are food lovers/restaurant goers and live on the Northwest side.

I wouldn't be much help, I like Taco Cabana and Chili's. But I have seen some new Sushi places around the De Zavala and Huebner area going up recently.

Try El Chaparal in Helotes for Mexican.

For Mexican Salsalitos is one of my favorites. There's one off of Bandera and 1604.

For Carribean I thought Passion on 1604 and Blanco was very good.

There's Pasaenos off of 1604 and Lockhill-Selma area for Italian.

For fine dining I really enjoyed Silos.

There are a ton of good restaurants around town. There's a reason we're large in SA.

El Taco Tote For Fajitas. El Chapparal is very good too and by the way, they are building one off 1604 not too far before the 281 exit.

I haven't been there in a while but Reggianos at 1604 and Stone Oak Parkway has been outstanding. It's pricey, but worth it.

Margaritas on I-10 near Callaghan
Alamo Cafe I10 and Wurzbach
Cha-Chas on Babcock rd. in Med center
La Fogata on Vance Jackson between i10 and I410

And the number #1 place to get a cold beer:

Salsalitos on Bandera and I10 - always cold and never bitter off tap...

Close seconds:

Hills and Dales across from UTSA
The Flying Saucer - Huebner and Huebner Oaks

It used to be a catfish restaurant. It's right next to the old Albertson's, on the Tezel side. They really are good, and the people who own/run it are very nice. I just know that's a tough business, and the first year will make or break you, so go give it a try!

Try El Chaparal in Helotes for Mexican.

Wow.... that is some of the worst Mexican in the history of fake Mexican,

I know this is not close... but Beto's on Broadway has Excellent, healthy (or as healthy as it can be) Mexican food. Their Spinach, Potato and Cheese Empanadas are the best.

There's tons of great food in SA.
Jacala on West.
Cha-Cha's on Babcock or Bandera Rd.
Henry's Puffy Tacos on Bandera Rd.
I'd say for sure hit up Magnolia Pancake Haus for breakfast.
Also try Chris Madrid's for burgers, it's one you'll hear more about.
Really tons of places.
Try www.SAeats.com , might help out.

I think El Chapparal is overrated. To me that is not Mexican food. I think there is a Mexican restaurant next to Hills and Dales off of 1604 and Babcock I believe right across from UTSA. Its a Taqueria Aguas Calientes. That place is good. Its small and can get crowded, but its good Mexican food.

I believe the Spurs hold some of their private events there - I have never been though.

I was going to ask the same thing. That's like five minutes from us, but I have never seen it. Hmm.. if it replaced the catfish place then I never noticed it.

Go down bandera, under 410, eventually take a left. Don't know the street.

Jumbo Shrimp ftw.

When the day comes that you feel like eating a good burger go to Chris Madrid's.

Most of the other places I eat more to the southern part.

Is chilis really supposed to be a Mexican restaurant? Heard this the other day and I find it hard to believe.

Chilli's is Tex-Mex.

It is? To me it's not Tex-Mex. It's a lot like Applebee's, TGI Fridays, and those kinds of restaurants. Just general American cuisine.

As a long-time Northwest sider -- back when the NW side was actually sparsely populated -- I'm ashamed to admit that I don't have a ready-made answer to this question; so much has changed over there and I rarely find myself on my much beloved NW side.

Lazy, really.

Well, that place next to Hills and Dales has failed several random health inspections over the last few years. They did so poorly on one that everyone I knew refused to eat there. Enjoy your food poisoning!!!

Hahahaha Like my husband says, "Bacteria tastes delicious!" He swears that's why hole-in-the-walls usually have really good food.

Some people believe that the Tooth Fairy and Santa are real, too.

Whatever floats your boat, I guess.
