They're tainted. Every big playoff match or regular season match can never be fairly officiated in the crucial moments. Bring on Boston vs. SA and even Phoenix vs. SA, but boycott watching Dallas vs. SA because something is bound to be screwed up.

Playoffs Game 3 2006: Nowitzki steps on Duncan, no foul, but one is called anyway and Duncan is fouled out of the game in the closing minute. Mavs win 104-103
Playoffs Game 7 2006: Duncan is fouled on a tip-in attempt at the end of regulation. No foul call and Mavs win 119-111 in OT.
November 24, 2006: Dallas holds a 95-92 lead, Michael Finley is clearly fouled while attempting a 3 at the end of the game. No foul called. Mavs win 95-92.
April 15, 2007: The Spurs lead the game the majority of the way, until an 86-86 tie with 1:15 left in the game. Tim Duncan gets tossed while on the bench for laughing, by Joey Crawford who later got suspended for the rest of the season and playoffs. Mavs win 91-86.

And that's why Pop and the "Sterns" got with the League and rigged the series between Dallas and the Warriors...so that it wouldn't come to a Spurs Mavs debacle.

Yes, the league definitely has a bias favoring the Mavs' winning a championship. It has been proven definitively in the past two postseasons.

They favor them in close contests. If you want to beat Dallas, you have to blow them out.

Only explanation for why they were 20-4 in games decided by 5 or less last season.

That couldn't possibly be it. Don't you know that the Mavs are a league-made fluke of a team.

Blame Mark Cuban for hiring former refs to scrutinize calls against his team :smokin

Nope. They get all the calls. Fouls that aren't supposed to be called on their opponent. Or fouls called when their opponent didn't foul them.

Done. I won't look forward to Mavs/Spurs games.

Instead, I'll look forward to another Jeff Daniels Band gig at the Bennigan's in Wylie.

If that was true, one would expect that the Mavs would either shoot an exceptionally high number of free throws (they were 19th in the NBA in FTA in 2006-07) and concede an exceptionally low number of free throw attempts (they were about 20th in opponent FTA). Surely, if they "get all the calls" that would start to show up in FTA numbers.

I'm curious why it didn't in 2006-07.

Oh my God, keep quiet FWD. That Tim Donaghy business was the tip of the iceberg. If the fans ever found out the shenanigans that are involved in propping the Mavericks up, it would be worse than the Black Sox Scandal.

For instance, the player you have come to know as "Dirk Nowitzki" is actually a former gay for pay pornstar by the name of Gerhard Schultz. I've seen him attempt to play basketball without his NBA minders around to engineer the outcome. It's not pretty.

Jason Terry is a convicted felon by the name of Reshawn Jefferson, and those are prison tattoos he sports on his arm. The dude constantly dribbles the ball off his foot when he doesn't have his NBA nannies around to cover for him.

I'm surprised this scandal hasn't broken yet. The Mavs are frauds.

And by "I'm not in the band," what Jeff Drums really means is "Absolutely I'm the drummer for the Josh Daniels Band. Come out and see us tear shit up at the Boston Market in Frisco."

I'm not really interested, but if you're going to get all statistical about this, shouldn't you use a pace adjusment, and use FT/FGA or FT/Poss. I seem to recall reading somewhere that the Mavs were one of the slowest (in terms of possessions/game) teams in the league last year.

The Mavs beat the teams they aren't supposed to beat.

Ironically for all the Mavs fans who talk about the Spurs playing a plodding brand of basketball and being a bunch of old guys, the Mavs actually played at a slower pace than the Spurs did. The Spurs pace factor was 89.8 in 06-07 (27th in the league); the Mavs' was 89.5 (28th). The Pistons were 30th (87.4) and the Blazers were 29th (88.3).

With that said, the difference between the Spurs and Mavs and the league pace factor is minimal -- the league pace was 91.9. Even at that, there's no real correlation between pace and FTA either way, because FTA are as much a function of style of play as anything else, it would seem. Phoenix played faster than anyone else last season and gave up fewer FTA than all but 2 teams in the league; lest that be just an indication of the Suns' soft defense, they also tried the fewest FTA in the league as well.
