Man, you're so full of shit.

You're just using that "I knew my team would lose bullshit" to your advantage. That's your M.O. You tell everyone how bad your team is so you can tell everyone "I told you they sucked" when they do, and so that you can brag "I had a feeling they'd be better" when they win.

It's a win-win situation with you.

Pipe dream. If San Antonio can't sell out an 18,000 seat NBA stadium for a playoff game, there's no way any NFL owner's going to bring his team to play in that barn, much less the owner of the least successful franchise in league history.

I thought that patch was for celebrating their return to the Superdome last season after the $200M Katrina renovation.

And peewee, regarding the Saints moving to San Antonio, we've had some epic discussions here if you want to search around. I still think SA is behind LA (definitely) and Portland (probably) in relocation and or expansion talks. Hell, the Riverside area (east of Orange County) has twice as many people living there as SA. They're probably ahead of Sacramento and Orlando just because Florida and California already have three teams in each state.

I read an article about going to ticketreserve.com and reserving seats for UFL games in potential markets in Time last week. Maybe that's the best way for the NFL to really take notice of SA being more than a training camp town and the folks that tried to poach the Saints two years ago.

L.A. has officially withdrawn consideration for an expansion/relocation team. They said they no longer have any interest in trying to woo the NFL.

Portland, however, I've never given much thought to. That is a possibility. However, I still maintain that SA can make an NFL team work.

Jerry's press conference last Friday made specific mentions of meeting with the leading potential investors in LA before the season started, and how he's meeting with other NFL owners tomorrow (Tuesday, the 16th) regarding that market. They talked about Toronto, too.

You can believe all you want about San Antonio's ability to make the NFL happen, but the league wants LA.

If I remember right, the Saints weren't selling out in San Antonio a couple years ago, either.

If the San Antonio were to get an NFL franchise, the Alomodome would have to undersgo a major renovation or a new stadium would have to be built. I'm not so sure the NFL is keen on awarding a franchise to a town that ranks 37th in terms of market size.

LA or Las Vegas has a better chance of landing the Saints before SA does.

Um, Western Conference Finals game 1 isn't a regular season game. If there's not enough interest to sell out 20 thousand seats in the playoffs for the best team in the league, then no idiot in his right mind would risk trying to sell 65,000 tickets for a football team.

It's all moot anyway; getting the Alamodome ready for a current NFL franchise would cost as much as it did to build the stadium in the first place.

Again, the basketball post season goes on forever.

Anyway, it's just 8 home games they have to sell out every year. And, with all the football nuts (myself included) from the Valley up to Austin, it's actually quite achievable.

Actually, you are the one that doesn't understand. It's a financial decision made by someone who wants to make money relocating a team.

The NBA is currently the only game in town. The Spurs are currently in the middle of their most successful run in team history, with three all stars, a new arena and multiple championships. They were unable to sell out game 1 of the Western Conference Finals in a stadium half the size of the Alamodome. The owner of a team would see the above and think twice about moving into a city with a brand new stadium and without two competing franchises within 250 miles.

In short, relocating a team to a town whose citizens point out the long NBA season as a reason not to be bothered to spend money on playoff tickets isn't something a smart businessman would do.

Your second sentence doesn't make much sense, but whatever.

The knock on Jacksonville was that they were a small market and that they wouldn't work as an expansion team for that reason.

According to you, it's proven that it deserves a NFL franchise. Using that ratinale, San Antonio should have an equal chance at a NFL franchise.

You can try to split hairs all you want, but it was a pretty big fucking game, and it didn't sell out. That looks BAD. Someone on the outside is going to look at that and give it a lot of weight. More than it deserves? Perhaps, but it doesn't change the fact that they will. It doesn't matter how many tickets you sell in the regular season if there's a perception that the fans use that as justification for not selling out a conference finals game (exactly what you are doing, in fact). What's to stop that same fan base from using that same excuse for not buying football tickets? Before anyone entertains the idea of relocating a franchise, especially to a small market, that should never enter the conversation.

Emotionally, I want San Antonio to have a pro team as much as anybody. Personally, I'd rather they not get one and have it fail, and I'm not going to deny the factors that a businessman would take into account, but a fan would try to overlook.

When a one sport town can't sell out playoff games for its championship team, that's a good indication it's not ready for a second team.

And the only reason the Spurs are still in San Antonio is because they got a new building in order to start turning a profit. The vote to build the stadium took place during a championship celebration, and still only got 60% of the votes.

OK. In 2006, the Redskins had over 700,000 fans come see them in eight games at 109% of stadium capacity, or just less than 50,000 less than the Wizards had in 41 games at 91% capacity. First in the league. The Redskins outdraw the Cowboys by 200,000 people and both parks sitting empty in Los Angeles (Rose Bowl 90K, Coliseum 92K) have seating capacities greater than DC's FedEx Field.

My point? The Spurs got about 765,000 last year at 101% (9th), about 10K more than Washington. San Antonio would have to damn near match that number in the middle of basketball season to even match Los Angeles' potential for NFL attendance, and the max capacity of the Dome over eight NFL games is only 524K.

SA needs to be cheering for some disgruntled rich asshole to hurry up, move to Los Angeles, and pull them out of the equation before seriously setting focus on hooking a franchise.
