Jeff McDonald: Manu loses his job
Move over, Manu Ginobili. Tony Parker has returned as the Spurs' starting point guard.
In the first stop-the-presses moment of Camp Status Quo, Parker engaged in a full practice for the first time Tuesday, with an eye toward playing in Saturday's preseason game against Detroit.
Parker, after a dizzying summer that included work with the French national team, had been limited to light conditioning and weight lifting during the first two weeks of camp under orders of coach Gregg Popovich.
In his absence, Ginobili had been quarterbacking the Spurs' offense. Asked after practice if he thought he could beat out Ginobili and regain his starting position, Parker laughed and said, "I hope so."
For now, Ginobili will likely have one more preseason game in which to play point. Parker expects to sit out again as the Spurs face Golden State on Thursday.
