How financially far apart are the Cavaliers and Anderson Varejao? He wants $9 million per for six years, they refuse to pay him more than starter Drew Gooden ($6.4 million). . . .

Nine mil is an awful lot to pay someone to fall down. Wonder if he'll wind up being the Latrell Sprewell stupid contract offer refusal award winner for this year, and will Bonzi agree to present?

Varejao's a nice player, but man, $9 million per is ricockulous. That's Ginobili-level money, while the only part of Manu's game that Varejao has down is the flopping.

He must mean 9 mil for TWO years.

I don't even understand what his agent is basing that offer on...
1) He made it to the NBA finals being a substitute
2) He sucked at the NBA finals, even arguably costing the Cavs one of their games.
3) He can't bang with the tougher centers/power-forwards in the league
4) Has no post game

The only two things he has going for him is that he flops well, and that he's relatively young. But 9 mil/year? If I'm Ferry, I'm waving him goodbye, and looking elsewhere...

His agent must be talkin' bout 9 million Brazillian Real's a year, not dollars otherwise he is on crack. i think they are right up against the cap for one thing and secondly he ain't worth it. I mean come on, that's beyond Jim Mcllvaine or Brian Cardinal money he's asking for...

If Barbosa makes $5 mil, Varejao deserves about $3.5 mil

He's worth $4M at most including generosity.

Doesn't matter... he's a restricted free agent. Cavs will wait for him to come to his senses, if he ever does (which I have my doubts about).

Maybe he hired Latrell Sprewell's agent

He has Dan Fegan. Which is kinda like the same thing as having Spree for an agent.

Look at it from Varejao's perspective. The dollar is at about 1.8 Brazilian Reals, down from about 3 in '04, so he's really only asking for about $35M on the contract. And the dollar's probably only going lower, so by the end of the contract, it could work out to about $3M- $4M/year in constant '04 dollars.

Is Stern going to have to raise the max to keep from losing talent to FIBA?
